Question from a noob

Question: Did you accidentally deleted any important system files?

I wouldn't think so. The only ones I delete are the ones I know, other than that I don't delete anything else.

It does not sound like a virus to me; first of all, virus attacks seldom explode and turn the entire PC upside down just like that when browsing through a website, that'd be some serious shit in that case. Dunno if you said that you already have, but run a virus check just in case.

Otherwise, I'd recommend opening the chassi and clean it, carefully. There are different ways you can do this, personally I tend to use an air compressor and blow it clean, works wonders and do not risk damaging anything. I have myself experienced crashes and having my PC run extremely slow because it's been full of dust and alike, and cleaning it has worked for me, so it might just do the trick.

Well, this sounds like some strange shit to me, so in the end, if nothing else works, the best thing to do might be to format your harddrives. Sure, you'll end up losing everything that you can't back up, but it's your call whether you think it's worth it or not. If it's a software problem, that should do the trick. If any hardware is damaged... That's not as good.

Since some people are suggesting it do any of you guys happen to know of any good programs to remove viruses or any good anti-virus programs? The one that came on the comp was McAfee but it expired some time ago and requires a renewal fee. I would like to know if there are better ones out there.

True, but we can't rule out anything right? By the way, I use Spybot as well, but don't you still need like a firewall or something?

edit: I asked because I've noticed my comp to be performing a little better after doing some scans.

Firewalls have nothing to with Spybot except as a security feature or something. The good thing about Spybot is that the updates are free and it's a nifty program.

I scanned the comp for viruses and came out clean. I also cleaned it with a spray can but it still freezes every time I try to rename or delete a file. I don't know what to do anymore. Best guess at the moment it to have someone check it out. I'm seriously at my wits end. T^T

It does sound serious, even after running malware/virus programs, syscheck, and cleaning out your hard drive. (I assume you did a thorough job in cleaning it.) I don't know anything else I could offer in terms of help, and you're probably better off seeing a specialist. Better hope the hard drive (internal memory) isn't damaged, because that would suck.

Hey g-money, this may be a wild stab in the dark but could the problem be windows explorer? When I do anything to my files only windows explorer freezes. Everything else still functions like the internet and such.

There shouldn't be anything wrong with the explorer.exe or the Windows Explorer program unless something in the software got erased or corrupted. Either way, I wouldn't know how to fix it even though it sounds like a plausible theory to your problem, though googling it might give you some hints and tips or even the right solution (yea right). If worst comes to worst, perhaps reinstalling the OS might do the trick, but don't do that unless that's the only way to fix it.

If he hasn't tried running chkdsk -r yet, I'd recommend it.

Isn't that the same thing that Rothen suggested? And if it isn't do you mind telling me how to execute it? I'm not that smart around computers.

edit: Tried it. It says I don't have user privilage and when I run as admin it says the action is invalid.

Well, seems like it's something in your harddrive that is corrupted. Unless Tegumi can figure it out, if it were me, I'd prob back-up my files, format the drive and reinstall the OS.

it says the action is invalid because you have to prepend the read verify switch with a slash (/).

the correct syntax thus would be chkdsk /R. You may be prompted to reboot due to lock conflicts. If you are, hit Y for yes and reboot your machine.
