Recommendations for a new laptop

Hey people, my computer just fucked me over and crashed, so i need recommendations for a new laptop. I just need something that doesn't need to be an epicly fast computer, but something able to play games like Black and White 2 with decent graphics. Please help me

I would recommend going mainstream. There are sites such as Compusa where you 'can' get a better deal, but I don't know how well they handle anything else(tech support, reliability).
Dell is who I recommend. HP is 'OK', but recently everyone I've dealt with owning anything from HP has had bad luck.
Dell, on the other hand, has gotten better. Plus they now own Alienware, so they have a big part of the gaming market as well.

I have had Dell since my first pentium 75 laptop with external cd player with windows 3.1 on a bazillion floppys
I now have 3 and they have never given me a problem
My sons all have Dell except the middle one who has a HP laptop which is on its 3d Display (non warranty)
Despite what you hear Dell support has been excellent for us Even to the point where I broke the carrier on my hard drive and they replaced it as warrenty

On the other hand, I've always had bad experience with Dell laptops, and I recommend the HP line. The reason why Dell support is excellent now is that it cost the company millions when they realized that outsourcing their support to India was a total bad idea and the relocate their call centers back to the Americas.
Either way, I don't recommend Dell. Toshiba or VAIO are pretty good models too.
Though for gaming purposes, I heard that the Dell brand of X-series of gaming is pretty good, of which I give credit to them.

I had a Toshiba. It crashed on me. Twice. Destroyed my hardrives. Im done with them

@ezrah: I used to have disk failure to with Toshiba, except I realized that I had a shitload of dust underneath my heat vent... cleared that shit out with CO2 and it's still running up to this day. It does get very hot on occasion, and HP models are better at siphoning off the heat.

I know Dell laptops used to be bad, as g-money mentioned, but they really seem to have turned around. My brother's wife got one to replace her HP(which they sold to me, which randomly died and last week and awaiting me to see if I can fix it...again.) and thus far the Dell has been holding up. The weak keyboard problem has been fixed as well as a number of other common hardware issues.
Spec wise, regardless of brand, I would suggest around this range-
No less than 2GB of ram, I would highly suggest 3/4, most come with 6 however that is overkill for anything now days.
I can only speak for nvidia cards, but for laptops GeForce 230 and up, or 8600 and up.
Again, only know Intel. Dual Core 2.6GHZ and up should be fine.

I would recommend a HP laptop, they are pretty sturdy and pretty strong. Also, don't buy an Alienware, your just mostly paying for the brand.

While I have not owned a generic PC laptop myself (I'm a Mac guy), I've heard tons upon tons of stories of the problems people have had with their HP laptops. While there are a few exceptions, nearly all of them are heat-related - in particular, HP laptops seem to have problems with cooking HDs and RAM chips. For whatever reason, HP's hardware engineers just can't get ventilation figured out. Compaq is owned by HP now, so it's a fairly safe assumption to think that they'd have similar problems.
I personally cannot recommend Dell. They've been in a downward spiral ever since they switched away from beige cases (basically once they started trying to appeal to the cheapass crowd).
Gateway is pretty meh and has been ever since the 90s.
If you're really deadset buying on a Windows-running laptop, I'd say go for an Acer, Toshiba, or Lenovo. Most of the mainstream American brands are shit.
EDIT: Also, regardless of what brand you buy, don't just run the install of Windows that comes with it. Get ahold of a plain Windows 7 DVD, erase the hard drive, and reinstall. Vendors include a ridiculous amount of useless shit that you just don't need and just end up slowing the computer down.
