I have equipment for building, primers, thinner, everything, except actual painting equipment. There's a store nearby that sells Tamiya spray cans although they're expensive and all, and the local spray cans are thick and meant for walls instead of plastic. Would invest into an airbrush but I don't have the budget, plus I suck at operating these things.
Using an airbrush definitely takes time and practice - need to get the mixture and thickness of the paint just right so it doesn't clog up the brush or come out too watery when you apply it.
I've painted 3 - 2 HG and 1 MG - kits with an airbrush and they came out okay. I still need a lot of practice with it though before attempting again.

Handpainting, I've tried on many models, but I just don't know how to get the paint and all that right(Hence why my HG Ahead model looks...dead).
Handpainting helps a lot with smaller details.
Like I did here.
Same with the black along the wings and shield, and the little spikes on the shoulders.
But you're going to need very steady hands, patience, and a fine paint brush if you're going to do that.

Two hours in and I'm done with the Core Fighter II for the RG Zephyranthes
