I've been looking forward to a number of advancements that have been starting to come about, like this, for a while now. between the beginning body/electronics linking we're seeing in artificial limbs 9see Dean Kamens 'Luke') the improving connectivity between humans and computers, and exoskeleton progress, I imagine that powered armor suits aren't more that 5-10 years out, with full body replacements maybe 5 years behind that. The question doesn't seem to be if the grim future of 'cyberpunk' will come to pass (the genre, not any of the individual products that bear the name), just which flavor (ok, that's about the myriad products with the name on or in it).
I agree. One of the things I don't understand about future animes like Gundam 00 is why are people still using cell phones? Given how much people use them today, and the advancements in nano and bio technology, it's a safe bet people will start having devices like that implanted into their bodies within are lifetimes.

Cop: open the door!
bad guy: NO!
then the cop just walks thru the cinderblock wall. that right there will be a new level of scared.

Me: hey what do you guys want to drink?
Friend: I know lets have kool aid!
Me: What?

Guy in Red exosuit: OH YEAH!
