Depends on what kind of grindcore. I'd say those who dwell to much on their metal influences generally get monotome. The Berzerker have some interesting influences, but in the end they still ended up like most death metal.
I'd say they fail at being great because they'd rather be badass heavy than actually doing something creative.
Not that I'm all-knowing on the subject. I dismissed them as just another metal-band after about 5-tracks, and when I checked them out just now again, nothing has changed.
Perhaps you could post some more Industrial/Experimental The Berzerker track than I've been able to find, as that is what I was looking for.
Stop calling The Berzerker "any kind of Death Metal", The Berzerker has absolutely NOTHING to do with death metal. and the way they play fits perfectly to the context of The Berzerker.
And the only industrial crap they've made is the noisecore things, such as Ode To Nash and InHale.
And of course you think they're monotone if you don't like the genre. And they actually have no influences (as stated by Luke Kenny, the singer), they are the first band to ever play the type of grindcore called "cybergrind".
But I can understand what you're saying about them, The Berzerker is a band whom which you can only like if you're an extremist of the genre. or at least close to an extremist. I for an example love almost all grindcore, although I only listen to a chosen few, mostly The Berzerker, Disgorge, Fuck I'm Dead and Haemorrhage. And they're creative, just the lyrics are badass creative, and being the first truly brutal heavy band is creative too, and mixing it with cyber sounds is also creative. one of the few bands that came before The Berzerker with almost this level of brutality is Napalm Death, and they're nothing to The Berzerker.
Anyway, this thread is really for fans of grindcore, but think what you want ^^ I'll stand on The Berzerkers side no matter what ^^
