The tragedy of online forums

A random thought just popped into my head. Most would think thoughts on death are depressing, so I apologies, but I wanted to ask a jumble of questions.

What if a popular user suddenly stopped posting? Would you immediately assume the worst or simple IRL troubles? Would you notice if the user was absent for extended periods of time? Would you ask around? If the person really did die... how would we know (kinda like the "if a forest falls in the woods..." question).

I find that last question the most interesting because I had a friend once who became penalized, but there parents went on their Myspace page and posted a really nice update on the person's condition. This site, however, is somewhat kept private from most people we know except maybe a few friends we introduced to it, or were introduced by.

I meant, that is the form in my head that I fill out whenever that happens.
There's been users which have just silently faded away.
Sometimes for the worse - there are members I definitely miss.
Sometimes for the better.

This has raised a little question in my head. What will happen to this site once jacob is gone?
@ topic it's no good to hope for the worst case scenario. However, I do think that one would tell us if they were leaving. Newbie users leave all the time but they ussually don't care to make a cya thread. In this case though, the person is popular and chances are pretty high that they would post a goodbye thread nya~.

Jacob isn't just popular, I don't think thats why it would be bad if he left lol.
I remember there was a thread long ago about what would happen if Jacob died...
