Marijuana cant cause lung cancer, since it kills any mutated cells growing.
Well I have thought about putting what anti-smokers thoughts would be, but you have to admit that we all the debates from schools, television, parents, etc.
And those damn commercials... they're so damn stupid.
Like that dog telling us we're not the same when we smoke... well no shit, your not same when your drunk either
People always use the alcohol comparison, but I think they are both pretty bad. Ultimately I think marijuana is illegal and alcohol isn't because marijuana was a much easier nut to crack, so to speak. While the history of marijuana use is far reaching, it has nothing on alcohol.
I always maintain that two wrongs don't make a right.
To reply to your video though:
The idea that marijuana is illegal only because our government was worried it would pacify our citizens and weaken our will to fight is so ridiculous I couldn’t help but laugh. The video is good though, they did an excellent job of jumping from one historical fact to another while filling the grey area between with their own biased opinions. This makes their opinions also look credible and factual by association.
An example of this is how they are pretending that hemp was made illegal because it competed with other fibers used to make ropes and clothes. The United States has always, and still does, grow hemp for industrial purposes. Hemp was never legalized for WWII, because industrial hemp was never illegal in the first place. The US just handed out more licenses to grow hemp during WWII. They are right that congress passed the marijuana tax act, but there is nothing wrong with placing a tax on a product. And certainly with a product such as hemp that has so many uses, there is nothing wrong with wanting to control what it is used for.
They are right about brain cell damage… to my knowledge there really is no evidence to suggest brain cells are killed by smoking pot. Cancer however really does have links to the drug. The active ingredients in marijuana are refered to as cannabinoids. The brain actually creates its own cannabinoid called anandamide, which is involved with memory regulation, pain, and the immune system. The cannabinoids in marijuana give you a high by reacting with the same receptors that normally receive anadamide, but obviously in much higher quantities. In short, marijuana provides a weak sort of immune system deficiency, which is damaging to your body’s natural defenses against cancer (among other things). It doesn't directly cause cancer specifically though, but users of marijuana might be more susceptible.
I still stand by what I said in your other thread, and would agree that the penalties for marijuana use are too high. The DEA wastes way too much money tracking down users of what is defiantly one of the most mild of illegal substances. But all the same, I think leaving marijuana illegal is important, because it encourages people to keep it to themselves. Also I should point out that while it may generate billions of dollars while it is illegal, if marijuana ever became legalized its value would drop massively.
