I just watched this movie (originally titled "Saam gwok dzi gin lung se gap") and I have to say it was beautiful. Maybe it's because I really enjoy the Dynasty Warrior games or like historical stuff but this movie was great.
It has a fairly low rating on IMDB because stupid people rated it. I'll just quote this person from China (who gave it a 10/10):
[...] Today i check IMDb and see a low score and low remark of this film, i'm so disappointed. IMDb provide a platform for global audience, however for this story, only those who understand Chinese history and have three kingdom story with their growing up can give a fair remark.
I've been watching Hollywood movie since i was a boy. This version of three kingdom is the best three kingdom story i've seen and the best movies i've seen. Better than brave heart, godfather, the legend of fall etc.
The movie follows Zhao Zilong (Zhao Yun in DW) from when he first joins Liu Bei's army (Shu) all the way until he's a relatively old man. The movie brought me to tears several times with how much emotion there was on the screen.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in history (not necessarily accurate), china, or the three kingdoms era. I give it 5/5. I'll even point you to the torrent I used to grab it: http://www.mininova.org/tor/1423419.
Edit: Here's a trailer.

I knew it was out, but I don't know what's kept me from seeing it, especially since its about Zhao Yun.
I'm really looking forward to Red Cliff, both of them. What's really great is that they're using primarily Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms as opposed to Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Since the latter is always the standard basis for most media interpretations, characters such as Cao Cao and Zhou Yu are vilified and Liu Bei and the kingdom of Shu-Han were glorified, mostly because of royal and civil influences during the Ming Dynasty. There are a few actors and actresses that I haven't heard of before, but the movie has a really good cast and, considering the budget, is undoubtedly going to be epic.
I'm really interested in the fact that the only divergence is that Gan Ning is being replaced by a character named Gan Xing who is played by Shido Nakamura, Ryuk from Death Note lol. Something else that caught my eye is that apparently Lu Bu is going to be in it, even though he died about 10 years before Red Cliff. I'm not clear on all the details, but since its about such a significant battle and is going to be two episodes, events from before and after are, naturally, going to be included.
Back to the topic at hand, I've heard a lot about Resurrection of the Dragon. The fact that Andy Lau is in it means its going to be good. You really can't trust a lot of those dicks on IMDB because, lets face it, a lot of movie goers are watching movies for superficial reasons, not necessarily the historical or cultural factors or the other things that go into making any great movie. I don't want to go into a rant about movie audiences, but considering that I've been drinking, despite the fact that its 11 in the morning where I'm at, the level of superficiality mankind has reached spills over into ever facet of human society and thats all I'll say.
I'm really glad you posted this. For some reason, I almost forgot about the movie, most likely because I've been so focused on Red Cliff for the past I don't even know how long, probably since they made the announcement that it was being produced. I'm gonna check it out as soon as possible.
