Ok so, I'm new to the whole torrent download thing, and contemplating using bitorrent. How safe is it? And by that I mean what's the chacnes of the fed beaten down my door and arresting me or finding nice mail from the govt suen me. Btw, I live in America..if that makes any difference what so ever..(If I posted in the wrong section I'm sorry).

That would depend on what type of files you are torrenting. Torrenting isn't inherently illegal.

Torrenting licensed/copyrighted material is illegal.
That said, I've torrented a couple licensed animes, and I'm still kicking. The FBI doesn't have the resources to hunt down every person who torrents illegal material. As long as you torrent sporadically, don't seed a lot, and don't torrent the really disturbing (highly illegal that the FBI tracks down on priority 1) stuff (such as child porn, genuine rape, snuff films, etc) I think you're fine.
I believe it's more acceptable to download, but not upload. At least, for my university, whenever I get caught torrenting, the warning message they send to me is, "Be aware you're UPLOADING".

never had any issuse with torrent so far.
I am not an American but i think the FBI has better things to do then to keep track of torrent users, they care more about terrorism.
even in germany you will only get arrestes if you are loading a fuck ton of illegal material and sell it.
like i said the goverment is more interessted in security then copyright, only the firms themselve will try to stop torrents

i torrent almost everything. music, games, anime and hentai. alll illegal all the time. teh eff-bee-eye ish never gonna take meh down
