I was making my third trip to Laos, I was 19 at the time, when I realized I never got to visit any of the underground fighting sects. So, on a whim, I decided to accompany my troubled uncle to a muay thai event. When I arrived, I witnessed a match just ending, with the loser severely bloodied. After the match ended, the winner of the previous match, pointed to me, and started heckling me. I was wearing clothes from America, so I stuck out. After witnessing such a sight, you'd think me crazy to accept. But I like fighting, I REALLLY like fighting. So I agreed to the fight, with the condition of it being only 3 rounds. Long story short, I fought, was nervous, I had the win in the palm of my hands, but it's the underground society of another country. So I held on for the 3 rounds, resulting in a draw(muay thai wins can only be from knockout). After the match, they starting cheering, and complimenting me, which really freaked me out, cause these guys were pimps and drug dealers. So the rest of the trip I kept being nervous that an officer would come and keep me in the country due to my relationship with those guys. I though my passport would eventually be taken.
Interesting story. But it makes sense, you proved that you were not weak or there to simply see what was going on. People like that usually respect strength -> not backing down.
