I'm also curious about the whereabouts of his parents. It makes me wonder if this season is going to explain where they've been.

So far, my favorite thing this season is that Dean is finally having some serious character development. Also, I'm pretty sure that the boys can't be cloned anymore since Hank and Dean destroyed their beds. I think this season will focus on character's growing.Also, that glimpse into Sgt. Hatred's origin was pretty hilarious.
The cloning thing went away with the destruction of the clone chambers at the beginning of season 4. In the commentary Doc and Jackson actually said they didnt want to give them the out anymore.
