I think you left off people just wanting to see what would happen if they did x, which is really how it all started. These days it's a business or script kiddies, but there's still some who are just looking to see what they can do.
The conspiracy theorist side of me says that the companies coming up with the solutions are in fact the very same people responsible for creating viruses and other malicious programmes infecting computers.
I remember reading a joke about software companies splitting their products into parts so that they can get more consumers to buy their "expansion packs/patches" after the initial release.
90% from companies that sell those softwares :twisted: , 9% from porn/mark/etc websites that infect your pc with spyware/adware and a remove spy/adware (buy me software) :roll: , and 1% from bored people :lol: .

The term "Hacker" is derived from "Exceptionally good programmer" Or some one who was good at using computers back when they came out. People were actually proud of programming computers and being called hackers.
