G4 and Comedy Central premiered their new shows about the internet this week, proving once again that there is no such thing as individuality on TV. :)
I watched both premieres and have decided to compare them, for those of you out there who are asking yourselves, "I want to watch something that shows clips from the web, but I can only devote half an hour each week."
Web Soup is G4's show, and it features some guy I've never heard of called Chris Hardwick. For those of your who don't know or realize by the obvious title, it is a sort of spin-off of E!'s show, The Soup, only instead of TV clips, it's internet clips. And instead of the very funny Joel McHale, it's a guy who, judging from the way he acts, has apparently never been on camera before.
Tosh.0 is Comedy Central's show, and it, of course, features Daniel Tosh. While the show does feature internet clips, it's more of a variety show. Tosh will talk a long time about the clips; there will be jokes that reference popular videos (such as Afro Ninja's redemption and Kato Kaelin with kitty ears as "keyboard Kato"); and apparently, special guests will appear with their own crazy videos.
Personally, I liked Tosh.0 a lot more, but I love Daniel Tosh. It's impossible for him to say something that isn't funny. But if you don't like Tosh, then you probably won't like his show. Makes sense.
If you just want internet clips, with a bit of dialogue, then you might want to go with Web Soup. Then again, if you just want internet clips, you could just go to YouTube. Millions of videos there.
