Well, this is rather unpleasant

So, I just found out today why the internet in my dorm room was shut off. It's apparently because of torrents and I only downloaded one, 1, file via bit torrent cause I couldn't find it anywhere else. When I was first unable to get on the internet a couple weeks ago, I figured maybe they're some kind of scheduled network maintenance but when after the first week, I started thinking that it might be the internet access software they have us use, but alas it was not. It seems that my university has a very low tolerance policy for torrent downloads, 1st offense: get's shut off and you have get a hold of the people in charge of the internets to turn it back on and promise not to dos it again.(Slap on the wrist). 2nd offense: they turn it off and you have to pay a $50 fine to get it back on. (Stern talking to). 3rd offense onward: ?, didn't bother to ask (they take you out to the wood shed). When I asked who it was that filed the complaint, it was apparently the M.P.A.A. of all things. So anyway the point is I found out that I can't use torrents anymore, which doesn't bother me that much, since I try to use DDLs when possible, other than it being a stupid reason to shut off the internet. Anyway don't ya'll think this is a bunch of bull.

Rules remains rules. Especially when it's smithed with dictatorism.

Yeah man, that sucks. Totally. I think universities are full of bullshit. But these policies and rules wouldn't be if people didn't accept them to begin with. So that says something about people and their goddamned complacency.

And this is how lawsuits are avoided.

So, even if a torrent doesn't contain anything pirated, you still get an offense?

I think the only thing that they specifically mentioned was okay was like Linux type stuff but I don't know anything about Linux so...

edit: oh and I forgot to mention that I got it turned back on today. Up until now I've just been using the wireless in the lobby which is fine and dandy, except that the signal strength sucks in my dorm room.

It wasn't even hentai. I was just downloading an episode of Naruto Shippuuden that I couldn't find a direct download link for at the time.

I'm not sure if it's a temporary problam or if my service provider is blocking it (if they can do that)

If i weren't allowed to use torrents i... I... I don't know what i would do, i certainly don't have the money to buy every game i want, since half the time games are absolute CRAP. Thats modern day market, sucking games. I actually prefer old games because they still have flair >.>

Don't get me wrong though, i BUY games afterwards if i find them good, like MW, but also offline games like AC. I think that if you like it, YOU BUY IT. But i just got so sick of games after the Spore fiasco that i never bought one again, with the exception of Oblivion.

Yeah my college doesn't like torrents either, but they can suck my balls lazy bastards don't do anything about it anyway not like they even know I'm on right now I don't even have to long in anymore.

The reason is the amount of data being moved will slow down the server but thats a bunch of bull anyway.

There are ways around it if you really want to use them just check around the internet. It's pretty fucked up that a college can tell you what you can and can't download on the internet. I guess it's theirs but still feels like bullshit.

If it's just anime you want, watch it streamed instead. Safer, even though the lack of quality sucks.

Torrents are awesome so i'm glad I don't live on a campus anymore. That really sucks what happened to you.

As far my anime watching goes, they ain't got shit on me when it comes to all the stuff I downloaded via megaupload & other DDL sites. It was just that one insignificant little file that I got via a torrent instead of ddl the MPAA got all bitchy about.

Torrents are essential to my way of life i KNOW I have DLed WAY over a TB of data using torrents.
