What an absolutely WONDERFUL way to end the day

So guess what I just found out not some 50 minutes ago. My dad died. From a combination of a drug overdose and drinking added onto that. Can't say I wasn't expecting it to happen though. He's had a problem with drug abuse (legal or otherwise) since he was my age and has been in and out of personal care homes for the past 7 or 8 years due to his poor health. I haven't really been that close to my dad. My mom and him divorced when I was three and I would see him on holidays.
Like I said, at least I was expecting him to die sometime in the near future, but my mom I wasn't. She died 4 years ago this last April in a car accident.
Still, I couldn't help but cry after I found out my dad was dead.

-------One of my aunts on my dad's side came by my dorm yesterday to pick me up and go to the funeral home to take care of some arrangements. This was because my dad had said that he wanted to be cremated if something were to happen to him. I had to sign some papers signing off and saying I was aware of this because my sister's still a minor and thus legally speaking, I was the only one who could have a say in it. We're planning on having the memorial service Friday night and then bury him next to our mother.

Sometimes, the only way to grieve for someone is when you realize he's finally gone. As the case with your dad and how you never really got to know him. It seems its a pretty tragic week for me as well as my friends, my teacher had passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was a great history teacher we ever had. Like you,we expected him to pass on after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but it really came a big shock to us when did. It was so sudden too, especially it was less then a week after the graduation and he sent us a congratulation card for us.
Also, when my grandpa died, when i was 12, we were shocked to hear that especially when it was less then three months since we saw him in China when we visited him. the funeral was hard on me but not as hard as for my mother and grandma.
Again, i give my condolences to you, and i feel really sad for your tragic circumstances.

Pretty much what everyone else here has said. You have my condolences, and they say that fathers cast a big shadow that their sons follow in.
