What did you learn today?

I have no idea at all what happens to children who have lost their parents or parental figures.

... Okay I do understand what happens but have no idea how that actually works. How do they pick foster parents? Where do the kids stay in the meantime? I've never seen let alone heard of an orphanage or foster house anywhere near my area.

So if those two kids I ran into the mall yesterday were homeless or orphans like I first thought, what's exactly going to happen to them?

I didn't really learn anything but the girl I volunteer at the charity shop with posed me the question "How long are we going to be doing this? When's the cutoff point?" (referring to the eventuality that we would quit the volunteering gig).

At the time I didn't know how to respond since I never really considered it, but it's made me think. If we did quit I'd still want to see her since she's part of the reason I go. I normally hate people, but in the year and a half I've known her I've grown fond of her.

In the words of Pokemon 'Bridged Brock: "(S)he's so funny, if (s)he were to go away, I'd wanna see him (her) again, and again, and again!"

Apartments are a lot more expensive in the city. o_o

That my dogs still don't understand how not to pee in the house. Or if they do don't pee on carpet or the bed we have made for them....

Surprisingly, a mini fridge would not keep a running pc cool. Especially if you're overclocking it.

Today I learned how crazy some of those "feminists" can really be.

I served her her drinks and food and stuff and she was getting upset about how the girls who work here are "forced" to wear such masculine uniforms to keep their job. Twenty minutes later I hear her arguing with (and following) the manager over our uniforms and how... Something something anti-feminist something let us girls express our feminine side... I didn't hear much of it. She wound up slapping him and walking out in a huff after paying for her meal.

She got in an argument over uniforms. I think she was wearing one herself actually and was probably in on lunch break. Either that or she stole that distinctively blue Walmart dress shirt (I certainly can't find a place to buy one)

The uniform is this burgundy polo and anything that at least touches your knees. (Shorts, skirts, but not short skirts. This isn't Hooters I'm working at here.) I usually wear kahkis as most everyone else seems to and it looks good with the walls and stuff.

Office politics.

• We have a new store opening up and the soon-to-be former Manager and a supervisor are moving there, effectively making the current Assistant Manager the new Manager.

• The higherups don't like giving longer contracted hours and prefer to hire more people on smaller hours. Quantity over quality. A woman that's been there since the place was under a different name is on a 20 hour contract and she's a Sales Assistant. Compare that to the 16 hour contract Supervisors have. Because of that we can't hire more people. That, and she's made it obvious she doesn't want to be there most of the time, so the (new) Manager is trying to see if she is willing to reduce her hours.

• And today I learned we're having a tough time getting someone in for Work Experience. The last one filed a complaint against the (soon to be former) Manager, since apparently she was rude to her to the point of getting reduced to tears. As a result the Job Centre seem reluctant to advertise for us. I did wonder why she suddenly left. Before she left she told me that she was told there was no job at the end of it, and I just assumed that was why
  
  But at least I'm not the only one who feels like that. She had the same attitude towards me to a lesser extent for a long time. Ended up disliking her because of it.
