Random is for talking about stuff that isn't serious but isn't inane (in theory).

Random is like IB only you get posts here.

Which is the misconception that most users are trying to correct.

Things like current events in the world, personal experiences that will spark discussion, questions with the intent of being taken at face value, discussion topics of interest that don't fall into Special Interests, etc.

I do want to note that users should make sure their topics do not conincide with the sections in the Special Interests subforum.
