I'd agree the process itself is not inherently painful, true.
But the fact that one is encouraged to modify one's body in a way that sometimes results in later pain (and encourages the sexualization of prepubescent appearance) isn't really the best result...
I see where you're coming from in that people shouldn't feel socially pressured to modify their bodies, but I'm still a huge proponent of shaving/trimming.
And not just for sexual reasons. I have no experience, and that trend's likely to continue for some time now, but I started my first pube reduction at 14, because it just felt annoying. It was a huge improvement, and every time I've expanded my removal of coverage, it's only felt better. Of course, if you've tried it and found out that you dislike it, that's a different story.
Also, I'd say girls try this often enough anyway, but a lot of guys think of shaving down there as weird, and if they could just get over that and give it a shot, they might find they really enjoy the sensation.
