What's the deal with MegaUpload?

Move this, as I had no idea where to put it.

In a lot of request threads (in other forums as well,) I see many people posting torrents to help those in need, only to get "megaupload plz." I'm sure the person is grateful, but I don't think some of you realize that MegaUpload can't support some of the bigger stuff. Someone wanted me to put a 4 hour long video on MegaUpload just because they were too lazy to download a torrent program.

So I ask, what's with MegaUpload (or other file sites like it)? Why can't some of you just torrent? If it's your connection speed that's different, but if you just won't take the time to download a simple-to-use program, why should we bother? I mean people aren't generally assholes about it (although I just came off as one and I'm sorry,) but some things just can't be uploaded to sites like that.

I'll give you this - MU is much more convenient than waiting hours (or days) on a torrent. Like I said, some people just don't understand that MU does have limits.

Discuss, flame, etc. Or re-direct me as I'm sure this has been discussed countless times.

It does have limits (I dunno what though) so that's why people split up whatever it is they are uploading into parts.(like a Visual novel for example)

It's not that I won't split things into parts (it's really more like I don't know how,) but I still think that if people can torrent, they should. I had to spend about 2 days downloading Lucky Chuta, so why can't they suffer my pain?

(Yes, I know it's MU'd here. I didn't know about Fakku at the time. Shut up.)

While MegaUpload does have limits, its limits are far greater than any other file-hosting site. If I remember correctly, you can upload/download something as large as 1GB on MegaUpload without a paid account.

As for why people don't like torrents, it's been discussed several times in the past, and there isn't a clear answer. Some people don't know anything about torrents, while others use school systems that keeps them from using torrents.

This is EXTREMELY off topic, but I didn't want to make another thread and waste space - Are people allowed to make their first post a request? I know HentaiPalm bites you a new ass for doing that.

In this website? Of course. Bunch of times I've seen it, one or two posts, "can I have this" then you never hear from them again lol.

I personally like MU because I find it, +JDownloader(program) very time-saving. MU generally works at a constant speed, while torrents fluctuate according the the seeds. Paranoia also plays a part, people believing torrents are virus-packed, and DDL's are the safest way to download. To a lesser extent, some people don't know how to use torrents(though they are very simple to use).

There's a program called HJSplit that allows you to split stuff up. It's free and easy to use. Here's a link. Just make sure you indicate how big you want the smaller files to be. The first time I used it, I split something into about a hundred different 1MB pieces.

Many places (like universities, workplaces, etc) block p2p transfers, which is why you get the request for megaupload. Firewalls and routers play a rule in this as well.

Location, torrent activity (And it's average user capacity.), MU dickery all play a role in this. You're making it sound like all kind of peer to peer transfer is bad and a direct download source is the better choice no matter what.



In terms of viruses, everyone knows the difference lies in the sources rather than the files. Downloading yet another virus video from a DDL is obviously less likely than from five hundred seeds.

Also, torrents are risky. Hundreds of people which will definitely care are able to log you and your transfer. A totally not dubious (Mega Toolbar lol.) company which is being withheld such information (You're just downloading after all, right?) is the much better choice for internet security.

Torrents are bad and get you into jail. If you want to safely use torrents you can make an intelligent investment into the next best proxy service for absolutely guaranteed internet security, seeing all information which might lead to you simply vanishes.

It makes sense, there are reasons behind such a paranoia.



It's not first-post requests that are the problem, it's the people actually providing help for such a case. And with "such a case", I refer to "can i get link plz".

It is simply more convenient than torrenting. Why torrent, where probably a good 80% of torrents are only at below-to-average speeds when you can downloading it directly from a hosting site for usually upwards of 500 kb/s?

I'll only torrent currently subbing anime because trying to torrent something that is even more than a few weeks old is slow, and more of a hassle than it should be when I can probably get it off of a site like Megaupload.

It's sealed away so that no human can ever reach it again.

That also doesn't change the fact that it's badly configurated.

Also edit: Why would you have a router in the first place if it's not for shared connections between machines.

Badly configured == disabling p2p clients? That's new.

Maybe they don't want the bandwidth to be wasted?

What do you think it is? Give me an explanation where this serves any purpose that can't be handled otherwise, like below.



There's the simple option of bandwith limitation, either through router abilities, on the software end of the torrent achieved through communication or simply out of not being a dick - and one can do with his own part of the bandwith whatever the fuck he wants, don't you agree? So tell me why it's required to block it on the router's side, maybe I'm learning something new.

DDL's definitely a lot faster than torrent... and most of the time, torrent files have malware. people also seldom use torrents because DDL sites (like Megaupload) secures safe download although some of the said sites require payment to access.
another downfall for torrent is that if there are no seeders, there would be no download.

there are still some allotted size of download but torrent can give you the complete size in one dl process...
I, myself prefer DDL than torrent... it's safer.

I like my torrents, but MegaUpload has done me well so I got no complaints.
