Chrome, by default, searches every time you write a word in the address bar (even if you don't press Enter, erases something or even you paste an URL [with some minor exceptions]).
This info (unless you have blacklisted cookies for www.google.com) is cookied, and bound to your Google Account if you're signed.
This means Google or your ISP can spare group requests from the same ID (aka Google Account, or cookie if not logged).
You can unbound your old data erasing your cookies and not using Google Account.
And yes, this is a privacy issue, and may be even a security one since data is sent using not encrypted HTTP.
Exactly the same happens in Firefox if you type in the search box, with two differences:
[*] Firefox uses HTTPS instead of HTTP. This means requests are encrypted: Google and only Google can read them.
[*] One more important thing: In Firefox your URL bar is not your search bar.
If you dislike Google and potential eavesdroppers archiving your info, block www.google.com cookies and disable instant search. Your information sent through the Internet may be still trackable (just as in other browsers), but it will be a little tougher.
Side note: This is made on purpose. Google can be really tough with their statistics.
For the longest time I used IE. Switched to Fire Fox and I haven't looked back. Never tried Chrome or opera but I have no need to, FF does everything I require.
I used to use FF, but then I moved to Chrome since it's less bulky than FF. FF for security, Chrome for speed. I use my built in IE only for downloading videos with my Grab+ function from Orbit Downloader. I do plan on trying Opera and a few more modified browsers. Mainly so I can play around with their anomity functions without screwing around with my router too much.
