Win XP SP2 Problem

So I finally got around to reinstalling windows XP on my computer that wasn't working. I went on to update it at MS site and installed XP Service Pack 2. It prompted me to restart the computer so I did. But when booting, it would get to the Windows Logo (with the bars going from left to right) and just hang after giving me a black screen and hangs for a while. Then it gives me a weirded out screen telling me it's shutting down and restarts. The thing is, I can get into Safe Mode which is quite odd.
I've also searched online for a fix and there doesn't seem to be one. Do any of you know a solution to this problem?

Okay, just checking a couple of things:
First, when you try to get into Safe Mode, it's from a cold boot and not a restart, right? Second, have you tried all of the F# keys? They could be different from what you're supposed to have. Also, I've found that hitting the key repeatedly once you turn the power on works better than holding it.

Well, the problem isn't getting into Safe Mode. The problem is booting the computer normally...

my sister had the same problem after installing sp2. the thing was is that her windows wasn't legit. Is your windows legit? She solved it by reformating her hard drive :(

I also tried repairing windows and also reinstalled it reformatting the harddrive and tried installing SP2 again. Same problem. It works fine if I uninstall SP2, but I need SP2 since many applications and programs require you to have SP2...

A quick question PD is this your Laptop? The really old one that has 256 ram?Lol, no. This ones my desktop, which actually has 1.5 GB. Not great, but a hell of a lot better than my laptop.

No problem. I don't think there is a fix out there at the moment anyway, and I don't think Microsoft is going to come up with a fix since it's an issue with old hardware (I think).
