Windows Media Player plug in

On shit load of websites the video won't load or anything and I click on the video screen and it says I need Windows Media Player plug in.
I click on the ok and get redirected to microsoft page with no download. I've downed Windows Media Player and I googled Windows Media Player plug in and downloaded some firefox thing but nothings works.

Use a universal player like VLC or GOM. Personally I've found running MPlayer on Ubuntu as the best media player ever. XD
