Okay so I'm at a cross roads right now. My parents are giving me there old computer when they get a new one because the HDD is fried basically, not a problem I can replace the HDD and do some tinkering in it.
I'm planing on putting three Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB Hard Drive's: http://www.globalcomputer.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4131881&Sku=TSD-1000AS2
Upgrading the Ram in it from 512MB to 2GB
The CPU is a 2.1GHZ so it's got enough Juice for a file bunker.
But I can not decide do I put Linux or Windows on it?

Personally I would go with windows for ease of use, then you could always use a virtual OS program like VirtualBox to boot linux up.

Go with Linux. You say the computer is just a Filebunker. Therefore, the flaw of not having many applications is non-existent.
Linux doesn't get viruses, and it's also faster. It can write to NTFS with tweaks. There's no reason not to use it.

Also the file size is comparatively smaller for the OS. The Version of Linux I've used plenty of times is actually puppy which at last I saw was still under 100MB. Also figured I can get two 1.5TB HDD's for cheaper than I can three 1TB.

If you love gaming, don't choose linux.
linux mainly used by thoose who love the computer itself.
Don't worry about virus, virus nowdays won't attack the data.

Depends on what you want out of your computer. If you are planning on gaming on it than for the love of God don't get Linux, but otherwise I'd say get Linux. You don't get viruses, considerable less stress on the system resources, and its free and no longer hard to use as it used to be a few years back.

Also, linux is good for emulators, and has many basic games. (Solitare, chess, tetris, etc.)

I am running Ubuntu now and its awesome. Althoug, i dont do much with it besides get on the internet and listen to music. If you are planning on just using it to store files, Linux is the way to go. Nowadays though, for games and all that good stuff, windows is way easier.
But hell with that much memory you could just freakin dual boot. :P

Wine doesn't work with everything. I've found several programs it is very finicky with.
