Thats a lie :) The learning price is not free. Its really buggy sometimes, and IF cpufreq/other ACPI thingie works OOTB, it eats almost the same power as Vista for example.
True I'd choose Linux, but for a WIN user, I say he should use WIN. (Set up a HW RAID)
Ubuntu is pretty stable, and they have a large FREE support forum.
Also, linux is good for emulators, and has many basic games. (Solitare, chess, tetris, etc.)
