That is most definitely a guy thing, I think. Whenever I've masturbated I've never just thought of this random person or even character in my fantasies.
Mainly because I'm the one receiving pleasure so therefore I usually fantasize of someone doing something to me. The doing to me can vary, but the person stays the same, and that person tends to be whoever I'm with at the moment, or rather, who I'm fond of.

I can understand why some people would feel that they want to just stay loyal to their partner and not look at anybody else, but I've never felt like I wasn't being loyal when dating. Hell sometimes my ex and I would watch porn, hentai, or even read doujinshi together.

I think it just comes down to preference in that case. There's no wrong reason for him to stop wanting to watch porn and be loyal to that person, others may just not agree with him.
