Are you a Boy/Girl or a Man/Woman?

In society, we have too many people running around saying they are a Man or that they are a Woman just because they have crossed the 18 year old barrier or hit puberty. Little do they realize, becoming a man/woman is not something that is measured in years, but in wisdom and actions. I'll be the first one to openly declare that I am still a boy because I still have some growing to do before I will consider myself a man. Now is the time for everyone else to be honest as well. Are you still a boy or girl? Or have you grown into a man or woman?

Side Note: If you are transgender, you can still say that you are what you feel you are. After all, gender is in the head, and sex is in between your legs

I feel weird about identifying myself this way. By saying "I am a woman!" I feel like I'm trying to prove something. It just sounds.. off for me to say. Or to hear someone else say, for that matter.

It just sounds silly in my head. As if anytime someone declares themselves a man or a woman, it will shortly be followed by a battle cry of some sort.

To that end, I'm a girl.

I have my own place and supporting myself. Basically I moved out of my parent's basement. I'd like to think I'm a man, but I'm a boy at heart. Plus getting old is over-rated.

A man must be swift as the coursing river, with all the force of a great typhoon, with all the strength of a raging fire, mysterious as the dark side of the moon.



In all seriousness, I think there's more to being an adult than providing for yourself/being independent and being held more accountable by the law.

I say neither 'I am a man' as I feel like I'm trying to prove myself to somebody, when I feel no need to. Nor does it sound right. nor 'I am a boy' because it sounds wrong once again.
I say: 'I am a guy.' Sounds about right for me. Surfer dialogue/slang ftw. Sucks how I don't surf though :(

Anyone not voting man or woman is underaged.

I'll stick with 'boy', physically sure, I do totally look like a man, over six foot tall, usually with scruff on my face and a scowl to boot. But I still act childish all the time, and really, I do it on purpose, there are times to be serious and when those times come, I'll act like a man ought to, but until then, I keep on acting like a goober all I want.

The world is too damn serious as it is anyway.

I don't think of myself as a responsible adult just yet, nor am I in the teenage phase where I just want to fit in due to my hormones being all over the place.

Personally, I think of myself as a "guy"; I'm neither a man, nor a boy.

Dammit I answered the poll before I read the first post. I change my answer to boy. Unfortuatly I can't actually change it so I'm just gonna say it.

I'm a guy. A fun guy.

tbh I call 50 year old men for boys sometimes. boy/man doesn't really have much with age or maturity imo, it's more situational.

I'm more than a boy in that i can take care of myself, have restraint, and do for others... but i don't feel comfortable calling myself a man. feels like somewhere inbetween.

i supose it also changes back and forth. sometimes i'm a man, and sometimes i'm a boy.

Boy. My emotional age is far too low to be called a man.

I have no respect for any definition of adulthood that is based off of social respect, because I honestly don't see any consistency of personality with such definitions. In other words, I often see:

Men whom I don't find particularly manly.
Men whom I find particularly boyish.
Boys whom I don't find particularly boyish.
Boys whom I find particularly manly.

Women whom I don't find particularly womanly.
Women whom I find particularly manly.
Girls whom I don't find particularly girlish.
Girls whom I find particularly womanly.

Then there's the biological definition of adulthood- when one has reached reproductive age. While this definition is rather irrelevant to most human society, I'd give it more thought that I would to the social definitions of adulthood.

I actually didn't vote here. I disagree with OP's core statement, so that tempts me to pick man, but I have no problem calling myself a boy. And while calling myself a girl/woman would be factually incorrect, I wouldn't really be offended.

I am a boy, i am childish and cheerful and i intend to stay as such. Todays standard's seem to think that "If you call yourself a man you have to shove a 10 inch stick up your arse", i do not think this would be at all enjoyable.

Jokes aside people seem to think that once you take a name of "adulthood" you have to suddenly know everything and be serious all the time, i don't think i could cope with that.

I am a man hat still looks 17. Seriously. Went to a bar, they said my ID was fake and told me to get out. Those basterds. I'm 23 and I wanted a damn beer.

I'm a girl. I call other women 'girls'. I'll probably feel like a girl forever. I feel awkward referring to myself as a woman, it feels too much like I'm trying to prove something. I'm sexually female, I feel, on the inside, like a girl. That's all there is to it.

My physical disposition is pretty well defined, but since where talking about the mental, it's much more complicated.

I would either classify myself as a Boy/Girl, or a indistinguishable gendered child. I don't identify with either the male or female expectations of gender nor do I view myself conforming to it outside of culture necessities, such as public bathrooms, changing rooms, and (arguably) gender exclusive attire.

As for why I define myself as a child, if the difference between adults and children mentality is defined by their knowledge, experiences, and wisdom, ect. Then I will never classify myself as an adult, not only can these vary tremendously from person to person, but are limitless in their quantity. In what way, would you, scale these and at what point, would you define, that they pass the thresholds into adulthood?
