it has to take in account what the "morals" and "values" of the people are.
Well that's the problem - as you go on to say yourself. Government censorship doesn't take into account our morals but rather impresses their morals on others. Age restrictions are one thing, but censors saying "no matter how old you are you are not allowed to see this or you will go insane and kill/rape people (even though I just saw it and I'm still fine)" is a pretty fucked up argument.
I agree...My point is that governments or authorities are supposed to adapt the statutes, laws, and measures of censorship to the type of societies and their values. The problem is that it's completely the opposite nowadays.
As you say, morals are imposed, "we" are expected to adapt and not the other way around. I know that may be extreme, and I try not to give a manichean point of vue, but to simplify I guess censorship must come from the parents, the family, the education and become slowly automatic. If you know what's good for you, and you have a reasonable justification, I think a child is then pretty much able to differenciate what he can watch or read and what he can't.
About internet, of course, if a kid have access to internet, there is no censorship in itself. However every computer, PC or Mac has a parental control, and if you're a parent of a 6 years old, it's your responsability to block access to any porn material. Then again, personal opinion...
