Well first of all I mean no offense to anyone by making this thread, I wish to discuss this topic and ask a few questions on this subject, I apologize if my words offend you.
Well, at the employer/company I work for which will remain nameless, our work crew has two deaf/mute people.
**The following is just my own opinion and how I work with them, you don't need to read it to reply, and it may or may not offend some so its being put in spoiler.
1 of them works often with most of use in are regular work duties(we restock the store) sometimes heavy lifting(especially when unloading the shipment from the truck) is required, and a decent amount of communication is required to work effectively AND safely. Sometimes this lack of efficient communication has resulted in slight injures (in my case at least). The most we can get out of him is a deep breathing sound, so it can be difficult working with him, but its not impossible too. The second co-worker, works in a different area (but not because she's deaf) though she can at times be very annoying in the sense that when she needs help, she just shouts out (in a very annoying sort of growl very similar to chewbaca of star wars) and she expects us too all turn around and stop what were doing to help her. Of course we try to help when we can, but if she believes any of us are being un fair to her, she grabs her phone and txt's the boss to have him come and yell at us, which he does.
Again I am sorry if what I said offended anyone.
So I am asking, how many of us have co-workers who are disabled/handicapped? How is it working with them? Can it be stressful, fun, enjoyable or difficult at times?
On a side note, this is UNCONFIRMED, but I heard that my employer actually receives money from either state/federal/or even corporate for employing people with disabilities/handicaps. This is still unconfirmed, but I would also like to hear thoughts on this.
