Could we be too good at artwork?

I've always wondered, in the back of my mind, if it could be a bad thing that we, as humans, are too good at art. I always have loved and respected artwork, in whatever shape or form it takes, but i've actually met people in my experiences who are so into drawn images and animations on the internet, that they now no longer seek relationships in reality. they no longer care about humans, but instead are more attracted towards the fabricated works on various sites.
I know i probably sound like some sort of paranoid parent or something (which i am so NOT), but after seeing my own best friend give up on his relationship and instead spend ALL his time with, basically, images that i drew (yeah, my own artwork is something he became obsessed with), it just got me thinking...
what do you guys think?

If this story is true and not some bullshit, then the problem is that your friend likely needs psychiatric help rather than your art being so good it makes him "give up relationships".

I personally don't think humans can be too good at anything. Whiel great masters have adorned our lives with their works that have lasted throughout centuries, not once did they ever stop practicing their craft, raising their skill even higher.
Quite frankly I think your post title is misleading, since your concern is over your friend who prefers fictional characters to actual relationships. The quality of your work is or isn't a factor in that; it depends on your friends' psyche and inlaid issues.

Personally, everyone has a different interpretation to artwork. While, some people will look at one drawing and say 'this is crap' or 'i don't get it', others will say 'This is epic' or 'It speaks to my soul'. It's all dependent on the person, their mindset and inner self. So, their is no such thing as 'too good' artwork, only art that touches the person. But it seems to me your friend needs some serious help and soon. It's just unnatural to be devoted of that magnitude by your art, and this my come out of proportion either by depression or you might become the object of his obsession.

Don't worry, it's not you, it's a preference that certain people have. The greatest artist cannot recreate the experience of human contact. While things you draw may be visually appealing, real sex has a way of putting things into perspective.
People have a number of paraphilias, but sex, with real people, is the best form of therapy.

I do not believe there is any correlation between the measure of someone's artistic talent and their desire to make and maintain healthy relationships.
While it is true that the more creative the mind, the more likely they are to devote themselves to their passion, or develop avoidant behaviors as a result of it, one can never be 'too good at art'.
The guy simply developed some deeply reclusive tendencies. Possibly antisocial disorder, agoraphobia.. etc.
He could also have some obsessive tendencies.
TLDR; Isolated case. No correlation between between artistic talent and desire to have a life. Some marginal exceptions but not to the degree of which you speak.
