I'm thinking of buying all of Homunculus' books (Renai Sample, Bashful Break and Courting Étranger) but before I actually go through with that, I kinda want to hear other people's experiences of ordering hentai books from Australia first.

For some reason, concerned Aussies seem to be a pretty common thing around here. I would suggest looking at this search for similar topics, read the replies there, and see if that answers your question. I really can't comment on Australian law or third-party distributors, but I can't recall hearing any horror stories.
