Financial Crisis

Government getting involved with banks and other financial instituations is pretty socialist, so while maybe more government regulation would have helped avoid this mess, the government isn't supposed to do it, because the United States isn't supposed to be a socialist nation. Not that it really matters so much at this point, I guess. Maybe the world WILL end in 4 years or so, and we won't even have to worry about silly shinanigans like this.

I don't think the government has a choice if they want to create a comeback. The U.S. government intervenes when necessary, when the welfare of its citizens outweighs personal rights and freedoms. It's not like the U.S. decided to be Socialist one day than Capitalist the next.

I'm surprised that the Citigroup co. stock is going up and continues to go up. DOW is also going back up. Wonder what happened.

I understand that the government does what it has to, I only meant that because we are capitalist, the government would naturally be less invovled untill they had t be otherwise.

There is some kind of health insurance, the right to go to school, fire department, support for the poor, police, etc. All very much free and government-run, AKA socialist.

You are right though, but considering the degree to which our government lies to us, who knows what's going on with this country anymore.

Nothing outweighs personal rights and freedoms. Unless the exercising of those rights and freedoms prevents another person from exercising their personal rights and freedoms.

The government needs to regulate these kinds of things intelligently. The government needs to play the role of a referee since the referee only steps in when the rules are broken. They don't tell the players how to play the game. A good analogy of their current methods are like trying to do surgery with a battle axe.

Seph is correct though. America is pretty damn socialist already. By comparison we are already blowing by France and it's socialism. Next is National Health care, Nationalizing the "Big Three" and large banks because "They are too big to fail".

The Government has been stepping on every constitutional right. The checks and balances within the government are coming apart. So if the president and senate belong to the same party it's a fast track for any bill they make.

A few more steps and the constitutional federal republic you knew will become a complete socialism. Once that happens the only way to change it is to wait for an economic collapse like the Soviet Union. Then the country will be up for grabs again.

Our country isnt just bailing them out!

The reason behind that was this.

1. If AIG went down. Other big company's would fall. Thus a domino effect. collapsing this country. Thus collapsing the bigger company's throughout the world.

2. we need that company! without that the little people would suffer. (Like our government cares)

AIG definitely cannot go bankrupt. As yuki said we do need that company...if it were to fall, many people (worlds biggest insurance company we talking about here) would lose their jobs etc etc.

That's not what I meant by that post. I was referring to humanitarian aid and all that other crap people waste money on overseas. Businesses are a different story, and I could rant all day about business fidelity towards their home nation.

Lets be honest, this is a event the world has never seen, with our current lifestyle. While they ''TRY'' to fix it, they don't know how!

I agree. Though we should have learned from past mistakes and this shouldn't have happened in the first place. The American economy went bust in the 30's then again around 1982 and again in 2008. If this shit happens again. I'm rounding up a bunch of people with torches, pitchforks and whatever else they can carry and leading an angry mob to Washington.

While american banks we're powerful, they're way of managing they're money was terrible! Don't need to pay for your house in the next 5 years!? Then all the sudden '' Okay PAY UP BITCH! '' Like wtf we're they thinking.

I was told, since i'm too young to have experienced that, canada tried the same morgage (or whatever it is) thing with houses with they're banks. And after a year we were like : ''Wtf is this PoS system'', and switched.

Like its amazing how the ''leaders'' of the world were rolling they're thumps about a system that was going to completly fuck them up after nearly 30+ years the system being used

Normally, if a company does bad business practices then they deserve to fail. Nowadays, companies and economies are so intertwined that companies can fail and get bailed out (providing they are big enough).

I'm surprised a conspiracy theory hasn't emerged about this was all planned by the banks and/or politicians. Basically, a way for the American government to socialize the banks and leaving the American people out of the loop since if we failed to bail them out then the economy collapses.
