Somehow it feels like people didn't quite read the part after "end the internet as we know it."
Google and Verizon can't do shit, but what they have done is to file a proposition to the FCC about how they think things should be runned, and ofc all these regulations that they want to implement will go for them to.
Basically this won't change shit, especially since they won't change anything on the war against piracy, the FCC will still not be able to change shit without a proper mandate, and as I have mention times before now; they will not be able to block a site as long as they're don't have any illegal content, and if the site removes their illegal content they will be allowed to stay open. For example; we say that Fakku! didn't remove all loli-content it once had, and that the advertisers didn't care. - Loli's have been deemed illegal, thus the FCC would be able to threaten F! with blocking them and drag Jacob to court if he doesn't remove the content. So F! go through with that and remove all loli-content, rendering itself legal once again. Blocking the site at this point would be an illegal act from the FCC.
From what I understand Verizon quite recently gave up a huge part of their landline-services in order to focus more on the development of wireless connections. What Google and Verizon does is really just trying to secure themselves as a leading party in the mobile-broadband business and keeping the others behind by setting a few regulations on wired-broadbands to help spreading mobile ones, as they will be more beneficial to use. And being the biggest man on the market as we speak, people will come running to them.
It's a dick move, but even if it goes through I doubt the changes will be that big.
