As an existential nihilist, I feel compelled to say, 'I don't care'.
"Fuck damnation, man! Fuck redemption! We are God's unwanted children? So be it!"
First and foremost, this is simply a drunk man's thought. I have no faith in god, and less in the human race...what a sad thing to say...But I like that quote and I hope it's inspired by the book and not by the movie. the movie doesn't do the story justice.
But another point...when you don't believe in god you're an atheist, why is that a religion again?
And a question for Space Cowboy...Are you sure you're an existential nihilist or a moral nihilist. Actually I ask all nihilists this question.
(If you're not aware, existential nihilist's believe life has no meaning. I.E. No God, While Moral Nihilists believe No morals exist. As in Anarchy.)
Personally I am the latter, If you can even call me anything but insane.
First, I'll admit it was the movie. I know it doesn't do the story justice, but if it means anything (hahaha), I waited years to actually watch it. Books are better anyhow.
Also, I know the difference, and yes, I believe life has no meaning (although I'm still unsure, but I don't know why I am).
Also also, I believe there's a difference between atheism and blah blah blah, in that atheists 'know' there is no God, in the way that religious 'know' there is a God. I simply don't care, and think we have no meaning here.
Or maybe we have a meaning but it's not ours? Who knows? It has not been proven that a god does or does not exist.
'Morals' are just something to control our existence in the way that determines whether we live or die. If we do not adhere to rules, we die out as a species, and possibly take others along with us. They are just a way to preserve ourselves as a whole.
Gaping holes in reason/beliefs, yadda yadda, whatever ^_^
