[Locked] IRC Power?

Well I noticed earlier this morning Hibia has lost his 'admin' status at IRC. Why? For well over a 18 months Hibia along with his bot has kept IRC in shape, making sure what happens to the forums does not happen there. Sure I'm there, but don't think I haven't been banned before!

I opt that he gets his power back, as he is the most active person on there - yes some of the other admins have been on more recently, but still Hibia is the most active!

I take it that there may have been a reason Hibia lost his admin status on IRC. If he didn't voluntarily request it or do it, he may have done something to anger Nikon, Jacob or someone on those levels. Anyway, putting that aside... whatever the reason.. I agree Grim.

I feel Hibia does deserve to be on top of the "chain" when it comes to Fakku and IRC.
He's done more than his fair share.

There is only oversight to highly opinionated users when they are actively contributing.
To abide by the rules set, removal of operator privileges was the best course of action to set an example for others to work by.
Not that this would be a required lesson, since the active team is in good form.

It was a bad move by Jacob, (In my opinion). I've seen another moderator make much worse comments than "He's an idiot", and when I point out that that is not how a staff member should be acting, I am told to "stop trolling".

I see, speaking your mind so freely on the "job" is not the best decision.

Hibia was a person in power, and it just looks bad when someone like that breaks the rules they're supposed to be enforcing(I'm guessing the rules on IRC are a bit different than those on the forums). Maybe the rules are more strictly applied to those have power above a regular user.

There's a difference between Jacob calling someone an asshole and me calling someone an asshole. Hope that makes some kind of sense as my thoughts are jumbled.

Since when has the "don't insult other users" ever really been enforced? This feels like it might have been blown out of proportion by someone who personally didn't like Hibia.

There was more to this decision than that particular comment.

Hibia has always been an excellent part of the community and I hope that will continue.

Unless hibia chooses to release more information to us, I guess this discussion is closed.

These were the only set of rules I found for IRC. I'd understand if Hibia said something like "He's a fucktard" and lost op, but he said "idiot". Sounds quite civil to me. Sure, its not nice to call someone an idiot, but you can't expect everyone to be good friends and buddy buddy with each other.

This intrigued me. Hibia, who set up Rei-chan while he's away to handle spam/flood, is actively participating in irc, and looks over everything isn't contributing? Hell, I must be doing jackshit then.

Admins, I hope you read this. I'm probably one of the few retards that are dumb enough to go against your decisions, but when I see something wrong I speak up. Hell, even Ranma says he didn't care. So why de-op? I mean sure, I make it seem like a big deal, but Hibia has been a good OP for the past 2 years.

Is there something else that you're not revealing? Personal grudge or hate? Did you use Ranma as an excuse to finally take away Hibia's OP?

Even if you read this, I doubt my comments mean anything to you. The internet is always a dictatorship. Leader being the one who pays for the server.

Going to have to jump in and give my opinion on the matter. I can see why Jacob would do this, but I just wish he would hold these standards to all the other staff. Now, I hate to throw KLoWn under a bus, but here I go.



How is that any better than calling someone an idiot? Not to mention it was actually on the site, rather than an off site chatroom. I'm not saying Jacob doesn't run a good site; he does. What I'm saying is that if you're going to strip power from one staff member for insulting a user, you should hold that standard to all staff members that insult a member of the userbase.

This is not a dictatorship. A lot of discussion goes into just about everything done on FAKKU. Except for the occasional decisions I make that end up destroying the server.

I shall speak up. Hibia has treated me in a more derogatory (and non-joking) style to other members be this in #Fakku or other channels over the past for no reason.

I had no desire nor did I request to have him removed from his status as he does a bloody good job and as stated Hibia was not removed from his position due to a single comment.

I'm nothing but a tiny cog in the big wheel that is Fakku so it's not my part to pass judgement on the senior OP's decisions.

Care to shed some light? Because as it stands the IRC channel will be worse off-overall without Hibia. When on any IRC channel, take everything with a bit of salt...

I get that Fakku staff calling people idiots and such is "bad"...but on the other hand in IRC it's an insult to not be insulted on occasion. If nobody in there has something negative to say about you there it's just because they don't pay attention to you. It would be unfair to tell the staff in IRC to never insult anyone because that means that their job is to sit there and not participate (and why would they want that job at that point?).

Anyway, I'm not going to complain about this more than that because it doesn't matter that I found Hibia to be an excellent IRC Overlord the Admins have made their decision based on facts that most likely wont be revealed.

However, as I said in IRC when I found out about this, we'll need about 5 new active OPs (or at least people with the ability to kick and ban other users) to replace Hibia. Hibia has always been around at all sorts of hours and the most spam and idiocy filled ones were the ones when he wasn't around. If new OPs aren't added IRC is going to very quickly degrade to the point where everyone will flee to CR or something.

That is my thought exactly. Hibia was made an op because he got the job done, and got it done well. No offense to the rest of the staff, but he is a huge part of why IRC is as awesome as it is now.
