I got quite passionate about this one time when I was confronted by a spokesman for PETA or someone of the sorts in one of those street survey ambushes. They were carrying on about how animals are suffering and dying while being tested on and how research done on animals could not be carried over to other species.
Without animal testing, we would lose some 90% of biomedical progress from this point forward. Plus we can thank animal testing for things like the ability to undergo transplants, insulin for diabetes, pacemakers (which is whats keeping my grandpa alive at this moment) and many more medical breakthroughs we simply would not have otherwise, or would of lost a lot more human lives in the process of developing. So basically I just said flat out yelled to their face "SO YOU WOULD PREFER THAT MY GRANDPA DIES THAN SOME RABBIT!?!" without really explaining much else in terms of backstory.
Anyway, yes to supporting animal testing for medical reasons.
As for makeup/shampoo etc. If there is a RISK of DEATH with the testing of cosmetics, I wonder why they are called cosmetics...
