Is it possible to feel pain in a dream?

Never occurred before, mate.
But when I sweat in nightmares, it occurs in real life too.

OT: I feel pain in my dreams. It sucks, because I have horrible night terrors(I was in a car crash and 2 of my friends died) and I wake up aching for a couple second until it fades. Happily it never stays, though.

I have never really felt pain in my dreams, just pleasure.

Ever had a dream where you fall off a bridge or something? Its pretty painful.

if you have a dream where you're being smacked and it hurts, it's cause you're really being smacked. i would know.

but unless some outside stimuli is actually affecting you, you shouldn't be able to feel pain in a dream based solely on your subconscious.

I dreamed of missing a stair step and falling down, then woke up panicking and holding on to a bedsheet. That's about it.

I felt pain In a dream, I mean actual physical pain, I remember I e time that I was having an argument with my mother then she slapped me. I felt the hit as if I was there. That is what usually wakes me up.

What a lot of people here surprisingly don't understand, except for unknown, is that pain isn't really a physical reaction, but a mental one. The brain is what deciphers what the body 'feals'. There are hallucinogens out there that could give a person the sensation of being on fire.

So, when you're dreaming, it realy depends if you will feel pain or not. Sometimes, I feel pain, and sometimes, I don't. The reason why is because the brain will be able to decide when a person should feel pain or not, like in a dream, in some subconcious state, it may or may not realize that the body is asleep, and what it is experiencing may be faulse.

Now to those who said that they have never felt pain in a dream before, that may not be entirely true. You may have had a dream where you felt pain, but you may not remember that one with the other dreams you may of had. Reason being, is because the brain goes through a cycle, and the first stage is called REM(Rapid Eye Movement), and this is stage is where we dream. The second stage, is NREM(Non-Rapid Eye Movement), and this is where the body will repair itself from any damage sustained, from scratches to broken bones, and where the brain will shut down all subconcious thought, merely leaving life support on.

The difference between these two stages, is that REM only lasts a few minutes. The brain uses this stage to organize thought and such, and only needs a short time to do this per cycle. NREM, on the other hand, takes aproxamitly a hour and a half per cycle. The reason why this is so much longer is because it takes a lot of time to repair the body.

The obvious conclusion to this is that we have multiple dreams every night, and when we wake up, we only remember the one we just had.

OK, so if i die in my dream,i should be dead in reality as well? ive should have been dead a long time ago then... o.o

Without wanting to sound Matrix like, when you dream, your brain is actualy experiencing the whole process as if it were you."Your mind makes it real" Nervous system is the most delicate thing in the human body and also the most bital in regards to the five senses(Captain obvious, I will slay you).
So when you dream, I would think it possible, in my humble opinion, that "brainwaves" as they're called, could escape your neuro cortex and slide into the nervous mainframe, causing either pleasure (wet dream and god we all love those) or possibly pain(never experienced myself but the yin and yang theory tells me that it ha sgot to be possible)
So yes probable if you ask me.

If you die, in a dream you die in real life.

You do feel pain but if you have never experienced it before your brain will make it up.

I've been shot, skinned alive, and burned in my dreams each one I felt the pain and when I woke up I could still feel the pain till I assured my self I was fine. I remember even being shot in the head and when I woke up I could still feel the blood running out of my head till I was sure that there was nothing there.

I got bit by a snake in a dream, it was real enough! When I woke up I was looking for bite marks on my arm. Freaked me the fuck out, arm hurt for a minute after waking up. It's like they said in the Matrix, The body cannot work without the mind, and vice versa.

Well i dream't about being strangled to death by a snake.
only to find out that my brother's leg is in my neck.

then it is possible to feel pain in dream.

there are two stages of sleep, REM(Rapid eye movement) and NREM(Non-rapid eye movement)

maybe you have some keen nerves that when you go to sleep, you can feel what you're experiencing, it's likely your muscle isn't relaxed and your brain still records pain from your sudden movement, when you got heavily tired before sleeping, it's just possible because you'll enter NREM sleep just about when you wake up and feel those pain.
