Is the electoral collage needed anymore

If you didn't know, the electoral collage is the group of people that actually decide who is president based on popular vote of a state. It is based on the States so if a state gets a majority of democratic or republican votes then all the votes of that states even if one side wins by a single vote, goes toward the candidate. (winner takes all)

I don't believe that it is needed anymore because your vote for president loses its value when it isn't what decides who becomes the president.
The electoral collage was created back in the time where news wasn't as easy to come by today. People didn't get informed on political matters at a moments notice, it would take awhile and many didn't care about who was president. That was then and this is now however, we have the internet, the news, the radio, and the telephone. We are almost always informed about these matters and want to be involved in the process of deciding a presidency. So I want to get rid of this useless an detrimental system and use popular voting to decide or better yet change it to where votes matter more and not use te winner take all system.

I want to know this. Do you want I abolish it, support it, or change it?

When there is voter fraud and intimidation at polling places, sometimes the electoral college is a good thing. So it can lessen that interference with the vote. It is one of the reasons why I think a Republic is better than a Democracy in countries, as for not all the citizens are as informed as some politicians, even then, a group of 10 misinformed citizens can't really equal one elected person.

Even though I agree with information, keep in mind that a lot of news sources are biased, therefore a lot of people will more than likely end up with a skewed view either way.

I vote change. This is mainly because if it came down to %100 popular votes, the bigger states would decide who gets elected while the smaller states would be ignored. With that said, i kind of feel like the electoral college has made some states more important than others, which i don't feel is right

[color=#2e1a6b]It's almost as if the electoral college intentionally tries to make your vote as insignificant as possible. You vote for someone to vote on how your state votes. And the people you vote for don't even have to vote the way they said they would.

Let's use an example of a state that has 9 million people and gets 9 delegates (votes). The districts are divided perfectly, so every million people vote on 1 delegate. Each of the 5 northern voting districts have 51% of the people voting for republican delegates. The 4 southern districts have 100% of the people voting for democratic delegates. The popular vote was 2,510,000 for republican, while 6,490,000 voted democratic. However, republicans got 5 delegates, and since whoever has the majority of delegates gets all of the delegates, All 9 delegates are republican, even though only 28% of the state voted republican. If 51% of the states voted like this, while the other 49% voted 100% democratic, then a republican president can be elected by having 14% of the popular votes. (This doesn't even consider the fact that delegates can vote against what the people voted for).

Obviously, such a situation will not happen, but this shows how much influence the luck of the voting system affects the results. With how close our elections are, the winner is entirely determined by how the luck of the voting system ends up.

I see no reason to keep the electoral college.

But it already has. Not _that_ big of a margin, but George W. Bush lost the popular vote vs Al Gore, but still became president due to the electoral system.

That is exactly my point of why we need a change in this system. A state or two I don't know which ones have changed their system in the way I want it to change. They made it so that each delegate has their own vote so the state can have for example 4 democratic votes and 5 republican votes. This way our votes will matter in the grand scheme of things.

In this age, where each person's vote can be tabulated within a single night, it seems increasingly ludicrous to keep the Electoral College intact.

It is likely to come, very soon, where we wont even have to go to the polls to make our vote. I have no doubt that someone will invent an AP to let us vote from our phones and computer terminals.

The Electoral College is a throwback to the times when counting of ballots was a more time-consuming process. Now that it is possible to determine a clear winner, with the popular vote, the EC is almost totally redundant. The reality is: That if the college was removed, it would totally nullify the concept of Red and Blue states.

I think the time is right to re-think the Presidential election process, and end the possibility that a candidate can lose the popular vote, but still be elected President. Maybe then, the candidates will have to spend time campaigning in every state, rather than only in states with large numbers of electoral votes.

The political parties want us to believe our votes are valid, but as long as the EC is still in place it will continue to trivialize that concept.
