Frankly, "talented" kidsends up taking drugs or killing themselves, like child actors. their parents manipulate and exploit their kids talents to get rich. their kids would become self obsessed with their talents and care nothing else. A good example would be Michael Jackson, and we all know how well that ended....

Agreed, this is similar to the rule stating that one member of every boy band will become obese and another will develop a coke addiction.
It depends what kind of talent and how it's being used or exploited. The kid with the guitar said he picked it up on his own, learned it without having any other music background in his family, and his family is supporting his interest.
I don't see anything wrong with that whatsoever. He's doing what he wants, not what his parents want.
This, however is something I'm highly against. Usually pageant mothers push their daughters to do something that they could never achieve or wish they could have done as children. They're little girl is cute so they have this thought that they must have popped out this amazing star.
In my opinion that's child abuse. There is no positive outcome from it. It does not teach them good self esteem that the argument is. It's teaching them that they can only be beautiful if they wear makeup, wear hair extensions, wear expensive clothing, do everything possible to make their body look perfect. That teaches them eating disorders for when they get older and start to fill out, it teaches them that they can be rewarded just because they have a pretty face, and it above all can create selfishness.
To me, it varies on the family (like I would normally say, everything usually varies on situation, to person, to what values and moral standards they would grow up with.). Of course, sometimes they don't make the brightest decisions (welcome to a our world.) but they have to live with what they decided.
Yeah I agree with you Ziggy about the child stars and especially when it comes to little girls mom's placing them in pagents. I'm sure a few girls have fun spending time with their moms doing it, but just the way that pagents are today must have a negative affect on the child.
It's good that some children are developing their talents at an early age, though "winning child beauty pageants" ain't what I classify as a talent.
I mean, parents, when they see their child showing signs of real talent, they should encourage them but not push them - it's like pushing somebody on the swing, you just have to give a push hard enough but not too hard.
Talents like music, sports (like basketball, tennis, football), acting/theater talents and mental prowesses are the best things that children can be encouraged to develop early.
I think it depends on what kind of talent it is and if he/she doesn't become overly dependent on that talent and/or if he/she starts to think he/she is better than everyone else because of it.
Also I would think you need to be careful in raising the kid because if you make them think their talent is all they have what will happen when they meet someone better.
Between those 2 kids, I'd say the buffed up kid would be most fucked up in the future. Being that buff in that age... there's gotta be a downside in the future. Seriously.
But the guitar kid - I don't see anything that could fuck him up in the future unless someone affects him in that way. He seems to have something special - picking up a guitar at such a tender age and then just rock away; I kinda admire him for that. But yes, he could get fucked up in the future. But that would be if his parents decide to exploit the talents, as the previous people said in the thread.
I dunno about guitar kid though, alot of great musicians start out at a very early age. My girlfriend started the piano at age 5.
Indeed. When being a kid, it's much easier to pick up things and learn it. For example; kids exposed to different languages at a young age will be very good with those languages with barely no accent at all, but if trying to learn it while being an adult you will notice a heavy accent.
You are asking too broad a question. There are several factors that need to be considered, like what exactly the talent is? Will it negatively effect the child later on? What kind of 'future' could be possible with this talent? What about the parents?
So.. if you are asking if kids will be screwed up when they enter adulthood, I would say it depends.
I watched something on the "muscular boy" a couple years back and turns out, the boy's dad was putting him through psychological abuse in order to bulk him up and enter him in competitions. The boy's dad was also a body builder.
I just think that if the kid isn't "doing it himself" and wants to be a body builder or a beauty queen or a artist or whatever, then it's the parents trying to live through the child's supposed glory. It's very selfish.

You're over-evaluating a simple question. Guitarist or not, when a kid is forced to do something or is able to perform but is taking the "Michael Jackson" route (i.e. dad was basically a prick by whipping the kid when he didn't get the dance steps right, etc. ), it's still abuse. Whether or not a kid has a certain talent does not warrant how much crap he or she receives for it.

I'm not sure if I'm totally over-evaluating the question at all. In fact, I think its perfectly plausible. Many people may push their kids to be something they are/aren't good at, and that may negatively effect them, OR positively effect them. It all depends on the child's mentality, the raw talent the kid has, and what kind of opportunities are presented to the child as they grow. Not every parent is like Joe Jackson.
Like they'd always said... Early rip early rot... And being a perfect being in the future? That's like a totally impossible thing to do... Everyone is not flawless...
That kinda implies that anybody that does not peak early will be worthless in life. Many greats were late bloomers so to speak, and even if you are not talented to begin with you can improve with practice. However this leads into the nature vs nurture debate though, a topic for another thread.
Bottom line, early talent does not equal success. Though it does help.
Damn it , there's such thing as Child Beauty Pageant ?!?!
That will mostly awaken the highest members of a certain clan , the PedoBear Clan !!!
Now who's to blame for those child molesting cases ?
I'd have to say that it depends on the kid. 1 with a good upbringing and is self disciplined would definitely keep away from drugs. Then again fame and fortune can invoke stress and several other problems with someone so this brings about the use of drugs and smoking. Still though, most kids in the media are into drugs even those you see as "good kids". So it still depends on the person. But if you're talking about 1 with perfect character that is definitely impossible. These kids to start with aren't perfect and the increased media attention would either worsen or improve them character-wise but still... no one is perfect.
