Luck, simply put, is the occurrence of something that has a low probability of occurring. People are predisposed to emphasize the importance of anything, and everything. Its also a fact that people have had superstitions for as long as they've been able to contemplate anything. If you combine the two, its only natural that when something of relatively low probability occurs, they'll immediately look to something beyond the rational to explain it. In that sense, its easy to see where miracles come from.
Miracles and luck can be explained rationally. It may not be easy because we don't know everything right away. Understanding how miracles work is a matter of reverse engineering, in a sense. You can't get something from nothing. Luck and miracles provide us with something to examine, break down, and understand on more fundamental levels.

It's not just illness I'm talking about, it's miracles in general. Say in a fight, the underdog is completely exhausted and literally has nothing left to go with. But yet he/she still manages that finishing knockout punch. To me, that is a miracle. It was brought on by his/her own strength.
There's actually a perfectly natural explanation to account for those types of situations. Under stressful conditions, the fight or flight instinct is activated. I don't want to go into a big lecture about it, but the hypothalamus gets excited and sends neural signals for the adrenal glands to start producing more adrenaline and noradrenaline. This in turn excites various processes in the body, one being heart rate and circulation, which increases the circulation of oxygen to the muscles and reduces the level of lactic acid produced. I hate explaining this shit, so I'll give you
this link and... whatever.
