No problem with spying on her and family

Once upon at time there was a family which got into an argument. And the owner of the home says that she has no problem whatsoever with the government spying on her and her family because "we're not doing anything wrong."

Do so many people really have this kind of attitude towards our liberties continuously being taken away? Are so many people really this short-sighted?

I mean, the person in particular is a couch-potato who's only interaction with other people is TV, so "sheeple" behavior is expected... But are so many people like her REALLY this short-sighted, ignorant, and stupid?!

Sadly, yes, a lot, and there's not much you can do about it since these blind people are a growing majority.

Why are so many people so apathetic? 60 year old women are acting immature like 16 year old girls!

Short-sighted, ignorant, stupid or just doesn't put a lot of value into privacy?

Let me put this out: me, I like my privacy.

However, I'd like to hear why people who don't are people you consider stupid/ignorant? What are they ignorant of? Why are they stupid?

The ability to research things and think about them clearly; To actually calmly debate, as opposed to making it about a power struggle.

When a person is unable to have an intellectual conversation which challenges their beliefs, OR becomes violent as if it were a challenge of power, then I believe it makes one incredibly arrogant, short-sighted, and stupid.

Not caring would be giving the government more and more power, sure, she can say "we don´t do anything wrong" or "we don't have anything to hide", one step at a time and the government will have absolute power not the people as it should be.

Well, I'd say idealism. The kind of thinking, "well no there is no way the government would ever do that they work for the best interest of the people, bladibladibla.".

They don't want to see the truth, that the government is actually ruled by lobbies, that they spy on you for either control or for marketing information, they don't want to, they prefered the days back then when is was all so simple.

They don't like George Orwell and they are a perfect example (in my opinion) of people in the platonic cave (link)

Hey I mean, when I look at my chart for predictions on the future of humanity in the case of exagerated fictional future, megacorporations is 46% of it. Well, 15% is zombie apocalypse, another 24% is 2012 theory (will verify soon enough) and the last bits are something like raptor invasion, alien invasion and sheep. In that order.

QUITE seriously though, lobbies are one of the most powerful non governmental forces out there today. I mean, when you look at history of the 21st century and 20th century, the oil lobbies and the entertainment lobbies EDIT: and the food lobbies, and the chesmistry lobbies...actually, any big corporation involved at a global state has once in a will "enticed" governments to do "so and so" have just... well governed in the place of governments sometimes.

When you compare lobbies with government in a matter of power I feel pity for the government.

I want YOU to explain WHY they are wrong.

You call them ignorant. Why? They gave their reason : they aren't doing anything wrong, so don't mind their private lives looked into.

What's YOUR counter argument to that?

Explain why they are wrong on which subject? Giving up one's liberties is not wrong by themselves, but I believe it's wrong to give up the liberties of your family.

And I say ignorant because that's technically what it is. "Lacking education or knowledge." The person in question has no clue what liberty even means.

I can actually understand his logic; if someone isn't doing anything that is punishable, that someone is more likely to accept various surveillance laws. I'm against surveillance laws for several reasons though, one being that it's likely that it'll eventually go too far (á la 1984). Another being that the government treats everyone as suspects, which is just wrong.

To not value your privacy is inherently stupid.

If I weren't doing anything bad, didn't feel uncomfortable with someone watching me, and was gullible enough to believe that the authorities always do the right thing and nothing I do will ever become illegal, I wouldn't mind being spied on either.

But as it turns out I'm not like that.

Sheep will be sheep. I guess TV really does kill brain cells.

While it's true I am not doing anything wrong YET, by agreeing it means I allow government to take my rights away from me, and it's just fucking unfair.

Those people that said their OK with it probably have never had their privacy violated before, once it happens them they'll change their tune.
