Todd Akin, Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Missouri, said that women have magical ladyparts to protect them from rape sperm when they are victims of "legitimate rape." He then apologized on Monday for saying rape rarely leads to pregnancy, but he continued to distinguish between types of rape.
What the hell does that mean? Legitamite Rape? Are there different types/ styles of rape that aren't public knowelge? Like, Forced Rape? Gentle Rape? Silent Rape?
How I see it, Rape is Rape. There's no differnce and trying to say other wise is just mkaing it worse.
What is your take on this?
He is not the first idiot to try to make "classes" of rape. It's been happening (with both stupid and wellmeaning intent) for ages now, though in the eyes of the law, there's only rape.
However, for many years, certain types of rape were thought to BE non-legitimate: rape by a person someone had already had consensual sex with prior to a rape; rape within marriage; rape by a friend or someone close (as for many years, and today, some taught that rape was mostly a "stranger in the bushes" phenom, which statistics show is the lowest occurring sort), etc. Some types of rape were considered "sex that was owed someone" due to position/status/race/etc, which is pretty fucked up.
This article covers its recent history. http://jezebel.com/5936160/the-official-guide-to-legitimate-rape
"RAINN defines rape as "forced sexual intercourse, including vaginal, anal, or oral penetration. Penetration may be by a body part or an object." To clarify: "Rape victims may be forced through threats or physical means. In about 8 out of 10 rapes, no weapon is used other than physical force. Anyone may be a victim of rape: women, men or children, straight or gay."
"(And here's some additional info for Scientist Akin: according to a 1996 article in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, "among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year." According to Planned Parenthood, more than five percent of all rapes result in pregnancy.)"
Sadly, it HAS taken until this YEAR for the FBI to redefine its own definition of rape - until recently, it only stipulated that females could be raped by a male (when this is clearly not the only kind of rape).

As I looked it up, only a select few cases per year for abortion, are rape-related. http://www.christianliferesources.com/article/rape-pregnancies-are-rare-461
This is political grandstanding, on the statement of "legitimate rape", what he should have said simply was:
"The chances of becoming pregnant from rape, are very slim."
But because of his awful choice of words, he's in hot water.
But that is not true either.
If you read above, even in '96 (and one can probably safely assume, with population increase, these high instances continue) "among adult women an estimated 32,101 pregnancies result from rape each year".
I am glad you looked up statistics, but they are not scientifically objective, as they come from a faith-based (and thus, biased) source.

You can be raped without having intercourse.
Do please explain.
Forced anal and/or oral penetration also constitute rape.
Sexual assault can describe a broad range of actions, ranging from molestation to rape. It is often used by the press to keep the actual type of harm a victim suffered under wraps for their safety and privacy, or until they wish to make public confirmation of the offense that was committed.
