I read, I just tend to read slowly. I've been reading this one book, I don't remember what its called, but its interesting and I'll read like a couple chapters every couple months. Its ridiculous because I won't remember what's going on, then I'll have to go back, reread some shit, and by the time I make any progress I'll find something more interesting to do.
Once I start reading a good book I usually can't stop. I think I will go get one at Barnes in Noble today actually because I haven't read anything in a while. ^^;
is this like the ignore kirbys posts thread or something? lol does no one else want to see a popular work of fiction become a full length manga, it really doesnt interest anyone? lord of the rings, star wars, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy... anything! i think the casual reader whos also into anime would find this rather appealing.
Still feels weird to be able to revive older threads like this...
Myself, it won't make a difference whether they convert any books into manga or something similar, I already read anywhere from 1 to 5 books a month... Granted I tend to be fairly picky about what I do read... Fantasy/sci-fi only for the most part, Forgotten Realms and Mechwarrior/Battletech being what I've mostly read, along with other book "series" by authors like R.A. Salvatore (getting kinda bored of Drizzt, though his books taking place in the world of Corona are some of my favorites, especially The Highwayman) or Ed Greenwood. I also really enjoyed the His Dark Materials trilogy...
Back on topic though, it could work, if they do it right and don't ruin the story in the process. The cover might grab my interest, but I always base a purchase off of either the back of the book, the author, setting, online synopsis/review etc. Oddly, as much as I love anime I've never taken the time, or money to actually read a manga other than the free Oh My Goddess! my mom brought home one time (she works at Borders, employee discount for the win).
For a serious novel, I'd prefer or photo or some artsy stuff. I know that anime and manga can be serious as well, it just doesn't fit very well with Haruki Murakami.
I believe quite a number of light novels have manga-styled covers. It could be one of the reasons why they are popular among readers, apart from the fact that some of them do have their own manga or anime series.
Like many of the members who posted before me, the cover does not affect what I read. My choice of books is usually based on its synopsis and browsing through some pages to see how it was written. Font format and size does influence my decision too.
A nice cover is never wrong, and it might be the thing that makes me pick up the book in the first place, but other than that the cover is pretty much a non-factor when i read something.
