Smoking ban in all public open air spaces.

That is one hilarious bar.

Although I'm not a smoker and don't like having to breathe and be around smokers, I think this is a major violation of personal liberty.

People should have their own right to smoke in most public places if they choose to. I can see why banning smoking near playgrounds and bus stops are acceptable since smoking there actively pollutes the air around others, but banning it in all places isn't right.

Regarding the part where government taxes tobacco, I have mixed feelings. A pack of 20 costs around $7.50 here in Washington state, which is insane compared to some other states. As a libertarian, I disagree that the government should be able to tax it. However, I also dislike cigarettes personally.

Keep cancer to yourself, it not herpes nor gossip, you don't have to spread it around.
My opinion might be biased on the matter since my lungs got me diagnosed as a light smoker in the past, thanks to passive smoking.
But this law is necessary so those who don't smoke won't have to suffer for other people's bad habits.

People should be allowed to smoke in the privacy of their own home or away from others. As long as it doesn't affect others directly, why care? If they want to attain "cancer" status and remove themselves from the gene pool, more power to them. Destroy that stupid, so that which is smart may flourish.

Same thing about weed then, it destroys people's futures directly and indirectly.
My point is, rather than banning them IN ALL PUBLIC PLACES, might as well ban them for real, I mean, make it illegal.
If government let this bill pass, it's like taking money from people while putting people in tight corner. Making advantages of them. That does not sound right at all to me.

Banning in open air spaces is going too far. in an enclosed space i can see because the smoke stays, but outside there is little to no chance of being exposed to second hand smoke.

Honestly. Everything we do is harmful one way or another. So living might be considered as a deadly disease. At the end of it youre dead.

Show me proof of weed causing cancer like cigarettes, then i will put them on the same level. But until then, i don't think the two are all that comparable

it's more about the smell then health risk tbh. The smokers didn't really complain after we got a similar law and people stopped hating smokers cause they weren't bothering people anymore, so everyone benefited as I see it.

When it comes to banning smoking, Finland is going for the extreme measures. Gotta love my home country, not.

This year it became illegal to keep tobacco products visible in shops, so everything is hidden and you have to ask the shopkeeper to give you some smokes. And you have to be specific which brand you want, otherwise they don't give you anything. Though they can give you a list so you can check what they're selling.

I'm okay with this. When you actively and knowingly produce constant pollution, you should be given citation.

I don't think people should get their panties in a bunch over this. Second hand smoking has proven to harm people, and the government has the right to restrict destructive action. I actually like to sit in a restaurant and not have to worry about coughing my lungs out because some person wants to ruin his health. Plus my dad quit smoking so all is even better.

As an architecture student I say all public open air spaces are for everybody smokers or not. As a smoker I agree not to smoke in closed air spaces but I really don't see a problem in open air spaces, if you don´t like to walk next to a smoker there's always the other side of the street pal.

I am a smoker and in the USA hospitals banned outside smoking , period. I still do it. Smoking-laws here dont/want to be enforced by the cops.

I don't smoke at all, never tried either. Nor do I like people who smell like cigarettes... but seriously, this is just cruel to the smokers. Sure the smoking ban is for their own good, but shouldn't people have the right to decide what they want to do? Loads of people know smoking is no help to their health but they do it anyway, and if the smoking ban gets any tighter there'll be major problems everywhere. Tobacco/Cigarette/Cigar industries are huge and if they go down, there's no knowing how the economy will recuperate from such losses. E-Cigarettes or vapor cigarettes generally are seen as tech toys not real cigarettes; it might be quite a while before those healthy alternatives catch up.
