Social preference

Some people say they would prefer to talk and work with someone who is nice and smart well, lets twist that a bit a
stupid yet nice person or a smart but complete asshole which is your preference?


To give my own view I personally like the smart ones I have tolerance for the nice ones even though they are wrong most the time I like the fact they are open (usually) to learning new things and properly educating themselves however, the smart ones can call you out on your faults, mistakes and flaws letting you at least work on correcting yourself.

To me being nice is a luxury it is desired however not required, being brutally honest however, that is survival instinct.
As such I'd say I can be open to socializing and working with both depending on the occasion.

Valid point but on the flipside what if the asshole helped you out too just to a lower degree out of pity or even moreso the assholes constant calling you out gave you a heads up warning of things to change or alter before you get fired thus preventing you from being in said situation from the start.

And as for the survival bit think of this even the nicest of people have there breaking points sure they may follow you longer but they are only capable of holding it in for so long if overall moral gets screwed some may have an outburst others may still try to hold it in and just start crying making you feel like the "asshole" in that situation.

While on the flipside of that if you call out an already asshole-ish person chances are he/she will simply smile and say "fuck you" you both come to the (unsaid) understanding that both of you can be assholes then move on with what you need to do to survive such is a common theme to old war or some cop movies with the nice rookie and the grizzled veteran.

I'd wish to be "Cool on both,' but I know my sardonic nature would make me a sarcastic asshole.

Definitely a nice idiot. Sarcasm can make for an interesting conversation but being able to just sit back and chat without a feeling of being judged or having to be careful with what you say is priceless.

An smart asshole it's still an asshole. A nice idiot it's still a nice person. I prefer a nice person.

its possible but not the point of this topic this is basically asking if you had no other choice and you had to choose only one good trait would your prefer "smart or nice" from the looks of it you prefer nice

They're always grateful and for the most part kindhearted and good natured.

I've been with smart assholes, and they're no picnic.

As a person who goes to school with a bunch of genius level assholes, I will GLADY take the nice idiot.

Seriously, I'm in the medical profession where it is INCREDIBLY important to like people because you need to CARE about humans as clients, customers and even patients. Yet some of these people who will be doctors view their human clients as pond scum. For the record, that is like <1% of them, but these people make the rest of us doctors disgusted.

There is one girl in particular who I am 100% confident will get sued. She's the 2nd most intelligent person I know but has 0 communication skills (we're talking "MOVE BITCH" instead of "excuse me") and truly behaves like everyone is the dirt on her boots. Even if she never does anything wrong, I'm sure she'll piss someone off enough to go after her. I really feel like her two-faced behavior (suck up to those better than her, openly despise all others) is going to ruin her career. I know that I will personally never hire her, work for her or recommend her to anyone. In this profession you NEED recommendations and networking to continue to work. Yet, she might still succeed if she goes on to become an expert in one field. She certainly has the brains to do so. However, I see no point in wasting my life giving her advice that she so REALLY needs to hear. She doesn't want it and I'm not her mommy. She's a smart girl, maybe she'll figure it out.

I have worked with people who were dumb as a bag of rocks, but their sincerity and honesty made me willing to help them. It is a pain to teach people who are slower then you, but fulfilling when you can help them even a little. That said, I have seen some really nice people let go because they could not keep up with the work mentally. Let's face it, if you endanger people's lives with your low knowledge level, I really can't have you working with me no matter how sweet you are. At some point, you have to learn SOMETHING.

Having experience with both, my obvious answer is neither.

I'm really sensitive, so I prefer the nicer option :P. But I've met tons of really nice intelligent people...

When it comes to working with people, i don't care if they're nice or stupid or what ever, as long as they do their job. so long as i don't have to clean up after them, they can act how ever the fuck they want.

I'd have to say cool with both on occasions.

It really depends on how stupid and nice, or how smart and much of an asshole.
It also depends on my mood, and how easily either would get irritating.

Nice idiot, in the long run you are going to get along just fine and have no need for conflicts or anything.

I met too many "smart" assholes and pseudo intellectuals enough as it is. I was even one of them and it isn't a good way to talk to people.

I've met some smart assholes in real life and they pisses me off.

Depends on the setting.

If it's someone I have to go about my day with, i.e. work at the office, wait for the bus, have lunch, etc, I'd choose the nice idiot. We'd find some common ground and have somewhat boring or dull but pleasant conversations. If it's that friend I have to put up with when a bunch of my friends get together to hang out, I'd choose the smart asshole because I could hardly wait for a chance to prove him wrong and slaughter him in debate.

neither. I did work to a customer service job and sometimes being too smart is really annoying. like why the hell are they calling anyway if they know the problem. but on the other hand if you have a customer who is a total retard it needs perseverance and I don't have that. so I choose a understanding person who has an average IQ.

I'd prefer if people were both understanding and of average intelligence but if I was forced to choose I'd go with the nice idiot. Most of my friends are nice idiots anyways.

My friends can be dicks at times, but I wouldn't call them assholes. There's only so much douchiness I can take before I will just completely lose it or find ways to avoid them.
