Solar Storm this Time

Alright, kiddies, it's time for our high school astronomy lesson:

Every 11 years the sun goes from a "solar minimum", or a time of low sunspot activity, to a "solar maximum", or a time of high sunspot activity.

In short, this shit has happened before, and in the nineties, no less, so we still had satellites in the air as well as modern power grids. People speculate the storms will be bad, but we'll kinda see it coming depending on the number of sunspots and imaging of the sun's EM field.

Blah. I doubt this will have any type of horrific effect on the planet. We might get power knocked out for a little bit or something, but I highly doubt any catastrophic. It just seems to me people like making big deals out of nothing. If 2012 turns out to be bullshit, this will probably become the next doomsday theory.

plan for the worst. wich would be a complete and total long term blackout of the global power grid. if a massive solar storm catches us unawares it will take the entire grid with it. and i rember a statistic from the historey channle that it will tkae a bare minimum of seven years to rebuild all the power substations in the us. think about that for a moment. 7 YEARS. without power. theres going to be mass looting once everyone figured out whats happing and all the backup genrators die so takeing a page out of my own survival guild i would get a jumpstart on the looting once i knew what was happening. not to mention be armed to the teeth. most importantly get all the food and water you can. also. learn how to wire car battery s together useing a dc-ac converter to get household current. of you make a hand crank genrot you can recharge them and use some basic things. thats just a few points out of my 100 page survival guild i made for this scenario, i wont bore you with the rest as most of its spesfif to my area. but the few main points are geting food water and shelter.

If this blackout is indeed a possibility, then one must assume that the government has already considered ways of handling the crisis. This means then that they would foresee the mass hysteria and chaos that would grip the nation and, if conspiracy theories have taught me anything, they would be prepared to enforce martial law to retain civil order. What then? Would we be willing to go along being kept in constant check by military authorities. Maybe it'd be a peaceful seven years, and after everything has blown over we simply go back to our techno-driven lives.

I, on the other hand, have little faith in higher powers and suspect that total authority might go to some people's heads...

yes and no. theres over 250 million people in the us [i think?] and how many of them are service men. and many of them being guardsmen who arent active and liv with there famileys ext. i think its entireley possible that the whole system could break down in a crisis that severe. and if it does, its better to be prepaired. there is meaning tot he saying plan for the worst. hope for the best.
