Far fetched? That is not true, the idea of solipism isn't far fetched at all. In truth, there isn't a single living being on Earth that can say they aren't in anyway solipism especially if you believe in any form of Gods or religions, which was like 85% of the human populace. If you believed that God exist then you are solipism because as far any human is concern, "God" can't be sensed through none of the normal 5 senses, therefore we all can consume that he is perception of our minds, well those who believe anyway, but yet he "exist". Another example, if you ever say your homework was hard or easy then you are a solipism because the only reason why that trig problem seem easy or hard to you is because you allow your mind to perceive it as hard or easy. Nuff said

I think it's you that made the statement in a thread abouth a sixth sense ? Since it has not be proven , we will consider that there is only 5 senses .

Perception -> perceive :

to become aware of, know, or identify by means of the senses

People don't perceive god's existance , they have faith in it .

In a solipsism theory , you could say that your mind is god .

Hmmm dude you do know that for someone to have faith in anything they must first become aware that they are there right? Gravity we know it exist but we can't see, taste, hear, smell, or touch yet we are still able to perceive it meaning that we can perceive things with not just the normal 5 senses. Also, ideas can so be perceive I mean if we are talking about them we are unknowing admitting that they are there.

I would sugest you to read on Platon and his point of view of the world of ideas . Ideas doesn't "exist" in the material world so no you cannot perceive them .

How can a sophist build a world view without external sensations, you can say that they are a construct of the mind but if that is true then why can't they change something fundamental to their world view like swapping the sensation of seeing the color blue with the color pink.

Humean Skepticism of which all modern day skepticism derives from doesn't advocate being skeptical of any and all things, only that with the increase in unlikeliness of events, more justification is required.

A solipsistic world requires too many assumptions, too many ad hoc rationalizations, contains too many problems, to be tenably held by anyone.

In essence, what you've essentially said is, "I'm wrong about a lot of stuff, so I should be skeptical of the stuff I haven't been shown to be wrong on."

Here's a better thought experiment. Take every single song you've ever listened to. Take every beautiful piece of art you've ever seen, take all the beautiful people you've ever seen. Now take all the WORST songs you've listened to, all the most HORRID pieces of art you've ever seen and the ugliest people you've ever seen.

In a solipsist viewpoint, you literally created, ALL of that with your head, in your mind. All the doujins and manga on this website? That's your creation. All the hentai you DON'T like? Still yours.

There's no rational reason to ascribe that kind of creativity to oneself except to remain consistent with solipsism. And if that's your only reason, then your reason is just that you want to be a solipsist.

Like i already said , im not a solipsist , i like that you didn't include in the poll the option to vote for "i think it's the truth" because there's really no reason to be solipsist other than wanting to be one as you said .

Why i was argumenting is because i live a way that i question everything and without real evidence , i won't beleive in it because i don't see any reason to do so . You say it's nonsense , but i don't see why the contrary would make more sense ? I don't need to assume that anything is the truth , i think that being open abouth everything that haven't been proven wrong or right is the only way to search for real and absolut truth .

If so, why? Because all things need evidence? Must I show you a picture of my cat before you accept that it exists? And must I then show myself holding my cat because you can't know if it's MINE unless I have it? What about the possibility that it wouldn't be my cat or that the person in the picture isn't really me?

You can take skepticism to a rather absurd degree, and I feel that's where you're headed, and where Solipsism is the end result.

There are things presupposed by our minds that we simply accept. Granted, we can find reason for them, but not evidence. You don't believe you're going to randomly fall through the ground when you're walking on a sidewalk. The thought never even occurs to you, you accept that you're walking, and nothing exceedingly random and arbitrary will be a result.

Sure when you think about that, you can find reason and evidence for your presupposition that you won't randomly fall through the earth. But that's not how your mind really works. You make the presupposition, and then defend it when it's challenged with reason and evidence, not all presuppositions are reasoned and evidenced a priori assumption.

Hmmm I am starting to think you dont really understand how humans perceive things. Let me ask you this, do you believe that evil exist?

I can argue a square is round even if it doesn't make sense to you. I can also argue ideas are actually invisible squares that are actually round yet containing 8 sides that rotates around a cubic singularity and that because they are like this I can perceive them. Perception is an opinion if nothing else. In addition to this and to answer your straw man, I perceive evil is an opinion and that your logical rhetoric is as convoluted as asking a solipisist to prove I don't exist.

While in interesting debate, I'd have to be inclined to agree with people saying that perception is an opinion. Now for my terrible analogy on perception. Think of a piece of abstract art, you have about ten different people looking at the same painting as you. Now, if you were to ask each and everyone how they perceived the painting, you can almost guarantee they would all perceive it differently than you.

Good and evil are concepts so no they don't exist , only representation of concepts can be observed and even there , good and evil cannot even be observed since it is not a defined concept , it is nothing else than an opinion . So , no .
