To directly answer your question; It's because America is always afraid of outsiders, they hate anything that is foreign and non-American and perceive any nation that might threaten America in any way as America's enemy. The media got a cycle see, where they scare the living shit out of people so they conform and listen to their corporate masters. 9/11 was a attack on America for it's imperial ambitions in a region where it should have no say and most American's either don't care or don't know about American meddling. So, they scare the shit out of the population to support a war that allows them to rob the Middle East of it's oil, keeping America's power checked in the region while keeping those pesky Chinese and Russians away.

America is one of the most diverse and free places in the world I don't know where you live but I can tell you that 90% of countries in the world you talk shit about the government and secert police are banging down your door at 4 a.m.

1: I'm Canadian, so I we are basically on the same level, but I know for a fact that my government is not recording or monitoring my phone conversations while yours is according to the Patriot Act, so technically, I have more freedom then you.
America is a diverse nation, but it's history cannot be ignored, for example Japanese Internment during the 30s, that was freedom loving America, goes to show how much your government respects your freedom when they can take it away from anybody.
2: How about all those treaties the United States broke with the Indians to take their land from them? How about the expansion across the West and resettling the Mississippi? The United States believed in Manifest Destiny, that it was by right from some great providence that it would expand across the continent and spread "freedom." This lead to the relocation and deaths of thousands of Indians all at the expense of American expansionism to the west. Lands viewed as separate nations from the U.S. Your claim that the Native's started the war is hilarious, considering they lived on the land in the first place, from my point of view, they were defending their home from the European descended invaders. 3: Wrong again, Manifest Destiny says otherwise. True, Mexico "started" the war, but it was obvious that the U.S was itching to fight it. For one thing, The U.S worked hard to undermine Mexico by annexing Texas against their wishes, the ideal of Manifest Destiny, again, made American's believe in their racial superiority. Plus, it's well documented that the U.S wanted to conquer California long before the war and Polk even confided to his sectary that he wanted to take California. Plus, the war was very unpopular in the United States as well, viewed by most as an imperialist war. A congressman by the name of Abraham Lincoln famously asked Polk to point to the very spot where American blood was shed that started the war, he doubted what his government said and questioned his government.
3: Pointing out the Vietnamese crimes to cover up Americas? The problem with your argument is while the fighting was brutal and what the North did was equally as immoral and deserve no support for anything they have done. The North wasn't viewed as the aggressors, the Vietcong, the people who strapped bombs on and fight what you said above were actually from the South and viewed the U.S as a outside force trying to control the country, and rightly so, considering the U.S actually blocked elections because it knew the North would actually win those elections and unify both nations under a Communist government. Secondly, the things you mentioned above, about glasses and the educated was not actually Vietnam, but Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge, thus proving your knowledge on historic matters. While the North was responsible for some evil and immoral war crimes, we cannot forget the U.S using agent orange on the countryside, which deformed hundreds of Vietnamese unborn babies and ruined the lives of millions of other Vietnamese people, look up Agent Orange on Google or Wikipedia and look at the pictures, then tell me that the U.S weren't immoral at all. Also ask those people during the 60s if America was fighting for freedom, and if you still believe the U.S was fighting for Freedom in Vietnam, read the Pentagon Papers and that should tell you how wrong you are.
4: I doubt that, look at the Republican Primaries and the Mosque issue, American's turn to religion for guidance, George W. Bush was a nut-ball religious type citing that "God told him to go to war." If that isn't religion insanity, I don't know what is.
5: Islamo-Fascist? Did you learn that word while mindlessly watching Glenn Beck? I say you did because your so damn wrong about that also. Al Qaeda main mission is to impose Islam in the Middle East because it views Westernization of the Middle East as immoral and wrong, and while I disagree with this extreme view, I sympathize with the people who have to live under American meddling in the region. The U.S has had a long history of interfering in the region and the terrorist want the U.S to leave them alone, and the U.S, wanting to secure it's power in the Middle East. It was the U.S that propped up many dictatorships in the Middle East, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia, it was the U.S that created the Islamic Regime in Iran by interfering and overthrowing it's democratic leader, it was the U.S that sowed the seeds of discontent that lead to the reprisals of 9/11. I hate to sound like a monster also, but it's the pragmatic truth, 3,000 people killed on 9/11 compared to the thousands upon thousands of peoples the U.S and it's allies has killed in the Middle East is almost a shame to even compare.
6: Yes, I have heard of OPEC, but that doesn't mean the U.S didn't interfere with the oil or is trying to. Exxon Mobile and other companies from the U.S and Britain got great, massive contracts from the government to drill and get that oil, making big oil a lot of money and giving the U.S more influence in the Middle East, in the end, it's still about of oil. If you honestly believe the U.S went into Iraq to save it's people, your sadly mistaken, it's also a strange fact that most of the oil contractors in the region are American and not Iraqi.

You wanna point fingers at "racist" regimes during the past centuries look at Britain and Belgium for example. You forget what happened in Vietnam after the war in 1976-79. My history disturbs you? It's the actual history with documentation and evidence from the time period objectively looking at the time period. I don't know what's more disturbing, the idea that you assume that the United States is the paragon of virtue or the fact your shouldering the blame on other racist regimes in a attempt to shield your country from criticism? Did you look at the effects of Agent Orange on the people of Vietnam? Did you read the Pentagon Papers or any actual documentation from that time period clearly showing America's intentions in the region during that war?
You automatically assume I hate the United States from criticizing it, yet you assume I am defending every evil the United States fought against as well, I think that the Communist Regimes are far more blood-thirsty then the United States ever was, Collectivization killed millions and was the greatest disaster in the modern age, alongside the Holocaust and the Rape of Nanjing, but just because you decide to mention the Exodus of Saigon "At first people involved with the regime, then the Communist cleared out people into reeducation camps, which was incredibly tragic as well." or the Empires of Britain or the Congo, doesn't excuse the United States for what they did. I would actually even throw the Agent Orange ordeal high up on the list of the greatest tragedies in the 20th century, I really recommend you look at a few pictures of the effects it had on the people of Vietnam, look at what your country did to the people in their own country. And while your at it, ask yourself why people protested the war and why people were against the war in the first place, and knowing your historical perspective, it'll probably be along the lines of "LIBERAL HIPPIES WHO HATE FREEDOM"
You throw terms around like "Liberalized" and your views reflect that of the American Right-Wing, so I assumed you followed right-wing ideology, and your beliefs are incredibly idealistic, where you need to prop the United States up as some sort of god-like nation, you also cited that America fought for Freedom and Democracy in Vietnam, when the evidence is so overwhelmingly against that fact and yet you have the brass to call me out even without evidence or citing any specific examples, instead relying on vague history to make your ill-conceived point.
I only known Quasi-History but I mange to point out more specifics and back my answer up with evidence rather then stupid claims. Your claim that Mexico attacked the U.S was only a sentence long at best, even the quasi leveled history in high school you hate so much would fail you harshly on such a answer. You provided no explanation of why Mexico attacked or provided any sort of reasoning or motive to invading Texas, or specified on the Thorton Affair at all really or mention Mexico's claim that the U.S Dragoons actually crossed the historic border that separated the rest of Mexico from Texas even when it was apart of Mexico. You just argued that Mexico randomly attacked one day and America rode to the rescue. Who is the one who is using quasi, biased history here?

In my honest opinion, it probably has a lot to do with the media constantly bombarding us with news from the Middle East. It's one way of keeping the general American populace focused on wanting to stay there.

Ok, first off, any well educated non-asshole American with any bit of common sense do recognize that Islam=/=Terrorism, heck even some assholish non-educated Americans know that too. The reason why xenophobia is so common in America is that, America is a diverse place with many different ethnicities. If you place large amounts of foreigners in any other country, they would be just as xenophobic. For example when I visited China with a white friend (who ironically knew Chinese better than me) I was treated just like any other person while my friend would constantly be scammed or occasionally be denies from a service.
