Why do you work so hard for nothing?

There's a saying, "I want my last check to bounce", which means you didn't "waste" your life working and had a bit more fun that you earned. But I view life more as a vacation. You can enjoy it, or stay indoors and sulk. Well, maybe you enjoy staying inside and sulking, but, my point is that life is what you make it. Yes, the vacation will end, but you had fun, right? And fun can be found anywhere, some people enjoy their work, some video games, or other hobbies. Perhaps my reason for living is to see a movie I enjoyed again. I can't do that if I'm dead, so, I'll wait for death, instead of seeking it out.

I work hard for the same reason I watch a movie that I already know the ending. The desire to know how.

I don't feel that it's a waste at all. Yeah, I'll eventually die but I want to do something while I'm still here.

I want to have some kind of impact on the world. I don't just want to be stuck with nothing. I want to both have fun and succeed.

I for one just live life to the fullest everyday. Being ready to die the next day. Hell, even after each second that passes by. Though I work hard so that I can enjoy the things that follows after that as I am living.

I see your point and have questioned the same. However, in the end it's more working hard to avoid nothing.
Hard to live your life to the fullest if you have no way to pay for it. Money is everything these days, weather you agree or not.

Plus, currently most everyones lives are pointless. The only reason we exist is to spawn, protect and raise said spawn, then die to make room for other spawn. Thus being we have no real, purposeful reason to live, might as well make your own reason not to die.

We make up are reasons to exists.

If I ever got my way I would do try to add a piece of myself into civilization. Maybe it's just teaching kids or making a small contribution. But even when all of those are forgotten my influence will still be there in some form.

This is how you live forever.

Avoiding death is imposable, people fear it for the same reason human fear anything else, because they don't know and understand what will happen (the one thing humans fear is the unknown). I personally look forward to my eventual death, however I don't seek it out. Human do what they do simply because they can. On a side note, I think that excessive saving and hording of material things is a bit wasteful, I also think that saving up for retirement to travel the world (or similar) if a bit foolish as well. I would prefer to travel the world now wile I'm physically fit and mentally sane and then live a quite life in my old age (assuming I get that old).

Even the knoldge you will die soon, possibaly tommorow. Then it becomes more depressing than motovating. You see these movies about people getting better and happyier even knowing you will die soon. However i have met people who are close to dieing and well that are very depressed, alot of them are still able to do things and not be worried, but they have an illness that will eventually kill them. They are far more depressed than they are motivated.

So honestaly I would not simply go from day to day i would be severly depressed, and i would do nothing but sulk. Go out and do things? HA whats the point it makes no difference. Correct?

I work hard so I can one day afford technology which will allow me to give death the finger.

You know, live forever?

I work hard because I want a good life while I'm alive.



I don't see it happening during that time we're alive...

well actually little babies don't fear the unknown(like wild animals or other dangerous stuff) but it's the young people and adults that fear the unknown because they have some kind of knowledge about it being bad or dangerous , unlike the babies that don't know anything at all about it.So human fear of death is because they think/believe that something bad will happen when/after they die or because they just want to live with their loved ones longer (forever lol). but if you neither don't have any bad idea of death nor you have anyone you love to live with , fear of death shouldn't really exist.
I'm not really working hard for anything right now even though i should and most likely will (study hard ext) because i see people working hard for foolish things like money ,cars, women or even maintaining their families with the purpose of achieving what??? just temporary pleasure(or escape from misery and poverty). anyway since we know(partly) the end let's try to change what happens until it comes :P
