Medium does not define art.
Pencil v. stylus is marble v. porcelain is watercolor v. oil is piss v. shit.
Perhaps your friend's "chicken scratch" is easier for the bystander to relate to. Perhaps art isn't meant to please the masses. Perhaps you should be tolerant of other's approach, dabble in whatever you can get your hands on, and build your own method in lieu of confining your expression to graphite and pulp.((Extentionary))-- Wade through the bitchiness of my first post. There is a moral to this story.
Ah... i seem to comprehend your response a bit. It seem to me others miss understood why I posted that. It's not a jealousy factor, more why does it seem when things are done with a tablet and then another is with pencil people like the tablets work better.

Ugh, I'm an artist too and I have yet to buy a tablet because If I get one, I need the ones with the monitor built in that's huge because I can't work on a small, crappy one that I'll have to replace after a year. >__>;;
But anyways, I've tried out a small tablet before and it was really weird. Probably after I get used to it I'd like them more, but it's a lot more handy than scanning pencil sketches and then doing the line art in another program. However, a lot of traditional graphite work, pencil shading, and such can't be achieved to the same extent with a tablet, so I think it depends on what look you want to achieve.
For artist's popularity, sometimes more people might like a certain style over another artist's. It just happens, but it doesn't mean that one artist is not as good. :3
You know it!
Scanning is a bother at times cause then I have to do a batch load of cleanup!
Pencil has a true effect don't you agree!
I wont be after popularity as yet till i get what i require out of my work.
