Music doesn't matter.
Your opinion is void.
Okay then. Why doesn't music matter? Please cite your refernces.
On the statement of "I just like what I like because it sounds good." Well that is only one of many odd things about music. Certainly there is a connection between There is somethings that you like, others that you don't, and not everyone shares the same opinion, but why is that? It would be easy to say "Well because everyone has different taste." But that isn't entirely true, we have large groups of people that have the same taste and certain sounds - like a screeching heavy metal guitar solo - sound agreesive universally. So then music also becomes objective.
Certainly, a chamber piece by brahms is "better" than the muzak at walgreens. A we apply objective stanards to music as well. There are music reviewers, a rating system on itunes, we consider certain people "musical geniuses" like beethoven.
Not only do we apply these standards, but there is a platonic essence that is inate that defines what is and is not music. Certainly nobody would consider a speech by president bush to be musical while obviously "hey jude" is a piece of music.
Poetry is not music either, so then one would say you need instruments. But of course we had a capellas, and ambient soundtracks of the rain forest. We can understand what is and is not music easily despite our taste.
