Haha as much as this is chivalrous, as you say, I just wanted to say that as a woman, I would intervene, and have done it before, though it was never in a house but at school (when I saw a girl being physically hurt), and on the streets, where it happened twice (in a dark alley, a woman was getting beaten up by her boyfriend, and the second time, it was in the middle of the street, the man just started slapping his wife violently -_-).
I don't think it's a matter of sex, if it was a man being hit by a woman, I would still intervene, inside a house or not. The fact that you would "take the beating worse than any women could" is not true, actually, it's pretty irrelevant, the point of the action is to interrupt an act that could repeat itself and become a routine if it's not already the case.
Moreover, I believe there a "duty to rescue", legally speaking. It's clearer in continental law than in common law, and in the US it's a pretty vague notion, but it's still present as an ethical and moral principle.
In France for example, it's a criminal offense, you can be punished for not rescuing someone who is in immediate and obvious danger, when you have the option and power to intervene, as long as it doesn't endanger your life, and you have to react in a proportionate way.
It was the case in the video, or in a similar situation, anyone could have gone and ring the doorbell, just that usually helps to calm things down.
